2026’s Most Beautiful Floral Design Trend Will Have You Rethinking a Vase
Fresh flowers and live plants make a space feel more alive and a lot less stuffy, but the design industry’s top florists are asking you to reconsider scale in the upcoming year. Tabletop arrangements are indeed powerful (even in small clusters!), but in FLOWER Magazine’s new 2026 Nashville Showhouse tastemakers in the floral design space are presenting a new, oversized method of displaying fresh florals.
In a recent video, New Orleans-based designer Tara Shaw walked viewers through the living room she designed for FLOWER Magazine. It’s a fun mix of aesthetics, with some pieces paying homage to prior centuries and others veering completely contemporary. But what really stood out was the way Shaw incorporated massive planters and vases into the space.
Oversized Flower Vases Are Trending in 2026
While watching the video, what struck me was a pair of two large pots with awe-inspiring floral arrangements spilling over onto the tables below. What makes this choice even more special is that there’s not one, but two pots — they essentially take up the majority of the tabletop space.
The size of the stunning pottery placed upon each coffee table is so unexpected. They look more like the types of planters you’d place on a front stoop than in your living room. And although the pottery pieces shown look as if they would be too big for the space they’re in, they somehow work so well and make the living room look much more regal, ornate, and lush.
If you want to play with scale in terms of plants and flowers in your own home, check out this urn from The Home Depot. It has a classically beautiful shape, and is over a foot wide. It’s designed with a drainage hole at the bottom because it’s meant to go outside, so you can either block it up or place a plastic liner inside to hold your arrangement
This low-profile vase from MPG has a bit more of an antique feel; this design would be great for arranging sprawling bouquets or housing a potted plant with a lot of volume. And because it’s made out of a lightweight fiberglass, it’s a great buy for coffee tables or side tables, as you can move it without any straining.
A traditional vase is nice and all, but if you really want to make an impact then take a page from Tara Shaw’s book: Go bigger with your floral arrangements in the year ahead.
