This Ground Level Space in Paris Is Now a Colorful Mid-Century-Inspired Apartment

The occupants of a Parisian garden-level apartment enlisted atelier Pierre Louis Gerlier to completely overhaul the residence, resulting in a chic, modern living space accentuated by soft hues and geometric shapes that give it a lighter, more spacious feel.

The upgrade of the two-bedroom apartment involved a master bedroom expansion, installing a custom-made geometric cupboard in the kitchen and adding a second bathroom.

The living room features a simple color palette with white walls and mint green flooring.  There’s also an entire wall of cabinets with circular recessed compartments for speakers, a desk and a cushioned lounge space. The living area’s retro aesthetic comes full circle with the inclusion of mid-century furniture, more pastel accessories and a full wall mirror that reflects the light from the patio/garden area to give the illusion of more space. 

The color theme gradually intensifies once it reaches the kitchen, which is decorated with bright yellow cabinetry. Nearby, a bright green floor connects to a set of yellow stairs. The first bathroom features a pink tiled walk-in shower with vibrant red cabinets and flooring to match. In the second bathroom, pink tile, white cabinetry and yellow flooring converge to make a liven up the functional space.

Another outstanding apartment renovation in which Gerlier demonstrated his ability to create additional space and utilize unique built-in functional compartments is this Paris apartment that the architect transformed from a one-bedroom to two-bedroom residence. Working with Marion Duclos, Gerlier incorporated wall cabinetry to create more usable space, a design element that is beautifully demonstrated in the children’s room where beds are situated in a “mesh,” a built-in shelf system complete with storage compartments and a ladder.
