Kitchen with light countertops.

Most pet parents can relate to the fact that as much as we love our animals, we don’t always love their stuff. (It isn’t typically very design-forward!) Pet food bowls, in particular, are pretty lackluster. I never expected to find a stylish solution in the aisles of my local garden center, but after coming across this video by TikTok user @that.cookin.mama I’m feeling super inspired. She uses plant pots (yes, plant pots) to elevate her dog’s food and water bowls, and make them more aesthetically pleasing. And I can’t get over how brilliant this hack is!

Why You Should Put a Planter on Your Kitchen Floor

The reasoning is surprisingly simple: Plant pots come in all sorts of stylish designs and materials, so they’re an easy, impactful way to turn a regular old food bowl into a decorative statement. Depending on the planter you choose (and the size of your dog, of course), the planter hack will also elevate your pet’s bowl, reducing any strain on their neck — so everyone wins.

First, you’ll need one or two of those classic stainless steel bowls you see in most pet stores (I’ve included an example for you down below). Once you have the bowl, just double-check the measurements to make sure they’re compatible with your preferred plant pot. Drop the bowl into the pot and voila! It’s a stylish home accent that you and your pet will appreciate.

If you’re interested in trying the hack out for yourself, I sourced some pup-friendly plant pots for you below. Enjoy!
