As someone who lives in a small space, I know furnishing any room, let alone a tiny living room, can be challenging. When it comes to living room seating specifically, there are so many options, which makes the process even more complicated. For instance, do you opt for a sleeper sofa or just go with a standard two-seater? Do you supplement the couch with a storage bench or instead try an accent chair? Personally, I enjoy having a shorter, cushier couch and making my other form of living room seating do the extra lifting.

If you have the same idea, then I recommend investing in a twin sleeper. Specifically, I recommend Pottery Barn’s Buchanan twin sleeper, which I included in Personal Shopper, the series in which I visit the physical stores of your favorite home retailers and test all of the furniture on the floor.

AT’s Personal Shopper series has featured a total of four twin sleeper sofas, and out of all of them, the Buchanan is arguably the most versatile and the most comfortable. And, it’s currently on sale in a whopping 130 upholstery fabrics! Hurry and snag yours now, while the discount lasts.

What Is the Buchanan Roll Arm Deluxe Twin Sleeper Sofa?

Measuring 58 inches across, the Buchanan is less a sleeper sofa and more of an oversized armchair that just so happens to double as a pull-out bed. It features polyester-wrapped cushions for added support, as well as a system of inner springs that help prevent the seat from sagging in the long run. To take advantage of its sleeper function, all you have to do is tug on the generously sized pull-out tab hidden between the back and the seat cushion. The seat unfolds into an 80-inch-long twin mattress, which is supported by a black metal frame that similarly folds out from underneath.

From there, you simply add your bedding on top of the mattress, and your overnight crash pad is ready! Regardless of whether the Buchanan is in chair or bed form, its roll arms and soft cushions add a cozy vibe to the entire space.

Why I Love the Buchanan Roll Arm Deluxe Twin Sleeper Sofa

Most of the sleeper sofas I test have firm seats, which is understandable when you take into account the metal frames and mattresses (which are usually made of foam) concealed underneath. The Buchanan, however, had a surprisingly soft seat, at least compared with other sleepers. From the get-go, I was impressed with its cushy yet streamlined silhouette.

“The collection’s deluxe twin sleeper sofa includes a built-in memory foam mattress that doesn’t separate from or morph because of the chair itself,” the initial Personal Shopper review reads. “The sofa is essentially an extra-wide armchair — perfect for those who live solo or with a partner but also want to host guests.”

Because the Buchanan is smaller than your typical sleeper sofa, it can go in pretty much any room, whether it’s the home office or spare bedroom. The next time you have overnight guests, they’ll have a comfortable and fuss-free place to sleep. What’s more, the deluxe twin sleeper is available in 135 diverse upholstery fabrics (including performance options!), so you’ll have no trouble customizing it to fit your desired aesthetic.

If you’d like other twin sleeper options, I’ve also tested and recommend Ashley’s Rannis twin sleeper for a budget-friendly alternative or Joybird’s Hughes twin sleeper, which has a charming, retro-inspired silhouette. But you can never go wrong with Pottery Barn, especially if you’re after furniture that’s just as well-made as it is beautiful.
