The $32 Storage Gem I’m Buying for My Bathroom and Kitchen (It Takes Up No Space!)

Growing up, my mom put over-the-door organizers everywhere, even though we weren’t even all that short on storage. From the pantry to our bedroom closets to the bathroom, you would find some variation of door organizer, whether it was a shoe pocket system or coat hooks or wire bins. Now that I’ve moved out of my parents’ house and into a tiny studio apartment, I appreciate her space-saving mindset more than ever.

I only have two doors to work with, and there’s no way I could ever let them go to waste. When I moved in, I repurposed a shoe pocket organizer to hold toiletries in the bathroom, and while it’s done its job well enough, I think I could find something that makes even better use of the space. As I was browsing through QVC’s organizing deals, I spotted one of the most clever over-the-door items I’ve ever seen: P.S. Home’s Removable Storage Tote System, which is on sale for just $32.

While I’ve come across a few organizers that look similar, I haven’t found one with this much versatility. Like its name implies, each of the five bins that’re buckled onto the organizer’s base can also be detached and used as a portable tote. That means if you store something like makeup in one of the sections, you can easily take it down and move it to your countertop or vanity. Once you’re finished getting ready, you can put it back in place and keep the area free of clutter.

Even more impressive is that you can customize it in a few different ways. Out of the five bins, three are smaller in size (12.3×4.7 inches) and the other two are larger (17.1×4.7 inches). The larger bins are connected to one separate piece, as are the three smaller ones. If you keep both pieces together, you can put the smaller bins on top of the large ones or vice versa, so you can keep your most-reached-for items toward the bottom.

You could also use each section on its own, placing them on entirely different doors in your house. For instance, the smaller bins can go on your pantry door, holding spices and cooking ingredients that you can easily transfer to the counter when you need them. The larger ones can stay in your closet, keeping out-of-season shoes or winter gear out of the way. Regardless of where you put them, you’ll always know where everything is thanks to the clear windows on the front of each tote.

Personally, I see myself using one of the sections for all of my laundry supplies. My detergent, quarters, and dryer sheets are all crammed into a kitchen cabinet right now, and I have to toss them in my hamper whenever I go to my building’s basement laundry room. If I had this organizer, everything would be contained and so much less of a hassle to take with me.
