Bedroom, lots of light shining in through window onto bed with white and gray striped duvet, colorful throw and throw pillows, small shelf with books, flowers, colorful art, tall stack of books on the floor

I’ve been traveling a lot this summer — which means staying in a hotel almost as often as sleeping in my own bed — and one of my favorite things about sleeping in a hotel is crashing into a quality hotel pillow (or three or four) at the end of the day.

I’ve always been someone who sleeps with at least two pillows under my head (basically sitting up, I’ve been told). I have a lot of neck pain, I think because I clench my jaw in my sleep, so any setup for sleep that doesn’t hurt my neck is a win — and I consider Quince’s Premium Down Alternative Pillow a big, big win.

Quick Overview

The Quince Premium Down Alternative Pillow, at a Glance

  • It has a polyester fill that feels like goose down.
  • The price is right at $39.90.

Design Features You’ll Love

At its puffiest, it’s a 24 ½ (W) x 18 ½ (L) x 6 (D)-inch pillow filled with polyester that feels like goose down but is a little less cruel to our feathered friends. It has a cotton casing, but I, of course, added an extra layer of cotton (technically percale) with a Brooklinen pillowcase.

The down alternative pillow comes in Soft/Medium, Medium/Firm, and Firm/Extra Firm thicknesses. It also comes in an oversized option for king beds.

And as for the packaging? It came in a fancy zip-up cloth bag, like a nice purse would.

How It Sleeps

When I put my head on it, the pillow flattens to maybe about 4 inches deep. (It’s a little tough to measure and lie down at the same time.) I went with the Medium/Firm pillow, but I think I would go for the Firm/Extra Firm if I bought another so that it might stay a little more full, and I would recommend that to anyone with jaw or neck pain, or any back or side sleepers, like me. But mostly, it’s a comfy pillow!

If I could give this pillow one area for improvement, it’s that it sleeps a little hot (though it doesn’t claim to be cooling). Normally, my percale pillowcases keep my face nice and cool, but maybe a little less so with this pillow compared with my other pillows.

What I Personally Love

I personally love that this pillow feels plush and holds its shape after each night. My flattening-by-the-night Target pillows don’t hold a candle, and that the pillow is only $39.90, which feels like a steal compared with fancy hotel pillows or goose downs for your home.

The only thing I’d change? I wish I had three more to complete my fully-made-for-this-photo (but hardly ever any other time) bed.
