I Tried the New Reese’s That Everyone’s Talking About, and I Won’t Be Buying the Original Peanut Butter Cup Again

I live for a good seasonal Reese’s cup. Sure, the iconic candy brand’s peanut butter cups are a classic, but there’s something about the Reese’s Santas and Reese’s pumpkins that just tastes … better? It’s probably my love for novelty and peanut butter. Either way, I look forward to the return of all of the different variations each year. 

This month, Reese’s is not only bringing back its beloved pumpkins, the brand is launching Reese’s Unwrapped Mini Pumpkins. Obviously I rushed to try them to see how they stack up against the O.G. TLDR: It’s my new candy of the season. 

It’s still nearing 100 degrees F (at least where I am), but that doesn’t matter, because all I’ve been thinking about is Halloween since Reese’s launched its Unwrapped Mini Pumpkins earlier this week. The peanut butter-filled milk chocolate candy comes in a resealable pouch and features bite-sized pumpkins that are a little smaller than the traditional mini Reese’s cups and slightly larger than the standard Unwrapped Minis. 

The new mini pumpkins are the first seasonal launch in the “Unwrapped” product line (at least to my knowledge). They hit shelves in early August and are available in 7-ounce bags at retailers across the country, including Dollar General, Instacart, and more. 

I’ll cut to the chase: The Unwrapped Mini Pumpkins are wonderful. They really don’t taste much different from a Reese’s cup or even the seasonal Reese’s pumpkins, but as I said earlier, novelty plays a big role in enjoyment. We don’t just eat with our tastebuds — the ambiance, feel, and vibe plays a major role as well, and in that department, these get five stars. 

The chocolate-to-peanut butter ratio is pretty 1:1 (which I enjoyed, but others, like Mara, our Director of Shopping and Groceries, wished there was a bit more peanut butter in the equation) and the milk chocolate is as creamy and sweet as ever. The peanut butter gives it that classic nutty taste that makes any Reese’s just so good. The bag was nearly finished a few hours after opening! 

The real treat of this new candy is that they come in a resealable pouch, which makes them easier to enjoy while watching a movie or on a road trip (no unwanted spills in the car). It’s a release that I’m really excited about, and all I can say is that I’m hoping for mini Santas in the winter.
