This Handsaw Eliminated My Fear of Power Tools — Now It’s All I Use to DIY
Growing up, my dad was a Fix-It Dad. He could (and did) tackle almost any project, from laying hardwood floors in our home to tiling the bathroom and building a deck. With such a can-do example in my life, it’s no surprise that I turned into a Fix-It Daughter.
Over the years, I’ve learned my way around a wide variety of home projects, and I pride myself on my willingness (and perhaps delusion) to learn just about anything. I’ve laid floors, tiled backsplashes, and even built furniture. There’s pretty much nothing I won’t try my hand at at least once — that is, except for using power tools.
During any of those projects, I would always tap out when the time came to wield a power tool, instead passing the task off to my father or husband, who are far less fearful of said devices than I was. To be honest, it always bothered me a bit that I could complete these projects but not really complete them. That is, until Rotorazer entered my life.
What Is the Rotorazer?
I first came across the handsaw through a targeted Instagram ad, as one does, and I was instantly intrigued. A gadget that could do many of the tasks as larger tools without the scary learning curve? Sign me up.
This 7-in-1 device boasts blades that cut everything from tile and ceramic to wood, metal, and plastic. Except, unlike hefty (and intimidating) tools like table saws, the Rotorazer can be held in a single hand, with a blade that feels far more approachable than its larger counterparts.
Don’t get me wrong; you absolutely still need to work with extreme caution any time you work with Rotorazer or any other tool. That said, the learning curve is far less steep and the intimidation factor is low — so low, in fact, that I put the gadget to work the instant I received it, with very little “learning curve” and very little fear.
The Rotorazer comes with three quick-change blades, a protective safety guard, and a dust extraction system. It also has an adjustable cutting depth to get exactly the cut you need. The cuts are smooth and precise, and the machine is easy to maneuver, whether you’re cutting a piece of medium-density fiberboard or a thick slab of wood.
I’ve used my Rotorazer to make garden planters and shelves. Meanwhile, I’m currently trying my hand at a built-in shelving unit for my living room. Simply put, it has changed the DIY game for me, and I feel more capable than ever before — and I have an ever-expanding project list to show for it.
If you’ve spent your DIY career avoiding power tools, I suggest giving Rotorazer a shot. Not only will it put power in the palm of your hand, but it’ll help you build confidence and work your way up to pro-level tools when — and if — you need them.
