The Relaxing Self-Care Ritual You Need Right Now, According to Your Zodiac Sign

Self-care is so much more than a trend — it’s the vital practice of looking after your own mental, physical, and emotional health. What you love to do to take care of yourself won’t look the same as someone else either since everyone has unique preferences and emotional needs, which, incidentally, astrology does a really good job of articulating.

As an astrologer and in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, I’ve compiled a list of the most relaxing self-care habits for all 12 zodiac signs. To be clear, these suggestions aren’t substitutes for going to therapy or seeking support for your mental health, nor is your zodiac sign the end all be all of what will or won’t work for you. Scan this list for some cosmically backed ideas, not absolutes.

Aries: Going for Leisurely Walks

You can get impatient, Aries, and you’re sometimes guilty of rushing through life when it isn’t strictly necessary. Slow things down by making leisurely walks a fixture of your self-care routine. You’ll get in regular movement, which is big for you — you’re ruled by Mars, the planet of action and ambition — but the slower pace will help you relax and encourage you to be more present. Bonus points if you skip the music or podcast and just let your mind wander. If boredom starts to set in, gamify your walks by recording different bird songs, trying a color walk, or counting all the seasonal blooms in your neighborhood. 

Taurus: Treating Yourself to a Massage

Physical comfort is kind of your whole thing, Taurus. You’re ruled by Venus, the planet of love and pleasure, and as an earth sign, you’re as tactile as they come. Lean into that trait by indulging in regular massages. Look, there’s plenty to be stressed out about these days. For many people, that psychic burden translates to literal aches and pains. Who wouldn’t be happy to hire a pro to help smooth over any soreness or tension? As a budget-friendly alternative, you could even do a DIY massage (or, if you’re partnered, ask your significant other to help you out).

Gemini: Confiding in a Friend or Family Member

You’re the certified yapper of the zodiac, Gemini — thank Mercury, your ruling planet, which governs thinking and communication. That’s why venting to your friends and family members should be a go-to in your self-care toolkit. Whether you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or simply excited, you’ve gotta get it out. It’s how you process your emotions. Make a habit of asking your loved ones if they’ve got time to catch up and then talking openly about whatever you’ve got going on. Not only will it help you relax, but you’ll also foster closeness and connection. (For the record: If you’re alone and really in a pinch, journaling works, too.)

Cancer: Eating a Nourishing Meal at Home

Nobody does homebody mode like you, Cancer. Being ruled by the moon, comfort, nostalgia, and nourishment are top priorities for you. Lean all the way in by making intentional mealtime at home — those meals where you put the screens away and truly savor every bite — a regular thing. Whether you opt to whip up a retro recipe from Grandma’s cookbook or order takeout from your go-to spot with the really good crab rangoons, you’ll walk away feeling comforted and grounded. Enjoy it, and when the going gets tough, or you’re feeling a little out of sorts, repeat.

Leo: Soaking Up the Sun

A daily dose of vitamin D is so important, but no zodiac sign benefits from it quite like you, Leo. In astrology, you’re literally ruled by the sun, an affinity that shines through in your characteristic warmth and charisma. If you’re not stepping outside every day for intentional time in the sun, what are you even doing? Sure, it’s not realistic for most people to hit the beach or park seven days a week, especially in the colder months, but I’m willing to bet that you can at least squeeze in a quick walk or outdoor lunch. Just get that daylight in somehow. Your mind, body, and circadian rhythm will thank you.

Virgo: Practicing Mindfulness

You’re always taking mental inventory, Virgo — noticing small details, making to-do lists in your head, and, sometimes, fixating on things that are simply out of your control. Such is life as a hyper-analytical, Mercury-ruled earth sign. If you aren’t already using mindfulness exercises to ease everyday stress, add them into your self-care rotation. By shifting your attention to your senses and really living in the present moment, you’ll notice all that mental chatter start to quiet down. Don’t just take it from me: Research shows that practicing mindfulness can reduce stress and anxiety and improve overall focus.

Libra: Taking “Everything” Showers

Beauty rituals matter to you, Libra. You’re ruled by Venus; it comes with the territory. For you, anything that could be described as “luxurious” also falls under the umbrella of self-care. You’re probably already a fan of the TikTok weekly “everything” shower, in which you ritualistically do it all — the scrubbing, the shaving, the 10-step skincare routine — but if this is a new concept to you, get in on it. By carving out intentional time to thoroughly pamper yourself and your body, you’ll emerge feeling relaxed and reinvigorated. Bonus points if you play some fun music as you shower.

Scorpio: Doing Self Check-Ins

Others might be fooled by your enigmatic vibe and inscrutable expression, but I know the truth, Scorpio: You’ve got a lot of feelings. As a sensitive water sign, it’s an essential part of your nature that you ought to embrace, especially when you’re overwhelmed and in need of a little extra self-care. Regular self check-ins would make a valuable addition to your self-care toolkit. You can do this by journaling about your feelings, venting about them to yourself in a voice note, or simply doing a body-scan exercise and taking note of all the different sensations in your body.

Sagittarius: Reading or Learning About Something New

You need space to roam, Sagittarius. Ruled by Jupiter, the planet of opportunity and expansion, you tend to feel most relaxed when you have the freedom to try new things and broaden your horizons. Channel your inner sage by picking up a book or signing up for an online course about a topic that’s totally new to you. It’ll scratch your itch to learn and explore without overindulging your restless side (you know, the side of you that’s been known to impulsively book an international trip as a coping mechanism).

Capricorn: Structuring Your Day (Yes, Even Your Days Off)

Capricorns often get stereotyped as the zodiac’s career driven workhorse, but really, you’re just a systematic thinker. You’re ruled by Saturn, the planet of rules and discipline, hence why you tend to derive comfort and fulfillment from structure and routine. For you, intentionally allocating your time isn’t a chore; it’s an act of self-care. Consider taking 10 minutes each morning to write a to-do list or mentally map out a loose schedule for the day ahead (yes, even on your days off). You’ll set yourself up for success, and by “success,” I mean a day where you’re actually able to relax and stay present because you know roughly what to expect.

Aquarius: Spending Time Alone

Aquarius, for better and for worse, you tend to live in your head. You’re a cerebral air sign, so you generally feel most at peace when you have the space to retreat into your own thoughts. Do yourself a solid and make alone time a regular part of your life, ideally on a daily basis. Even an extra 30 minutes of solo time before or after work will do wonders to ease your mind and recharge your social battery. You can even habit stack with another relaxing activity, like journaling, freewriting, or drawing.

Pisces: Crafting or Doing Home DIY Projects

You’re naturally creative, Pisces. It’s one of your gifts as an intuitive water sign, so it’s no wonder you share a zodiac sign with many famous musicians (think: Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, and Nirvana legend Kurt Cobain). Soothe your nerves by tapping into your creative side and doing crafts or low-stakes DIY projects at home. To start, choose a craft or project that’s simple, beginner-friendly, and a bit meditative, like making friendship bracelets or painting a piece of furniture. That way, you can really get lost in the process — and maybe even use it as an outlet to explore your feelings. At minimum, it’ll offer a brief distraction from the stress of life, so you’ll probably feel calmer afterward.
