The last vacuum I recall buying was also my first. I made the purchase about 20 years ago after graduating college and moving into my first apartment. It was nothing fancy — or all that effective, if memory serves — but it did the job when my postgrad budget was too low to afford a cleaning service. Eventually, I met my now-husband and ditched my old vacuum in favor of his, which was just as old, though in better shape. It’s served us fine, however. Its big behemoth profile takes up our entire hall closet, its suction power has admittedly waned, and emptying dirt out is a laborious chore.

Now, with two kids under 5 and all the mess that accompanies them, it was time to reconsider our approach. But instead of lugging a giant corded dust guzzler around the house, I wanted something different. I landed on the Shark EveryMess, a 3-in-1 portable wet vacuum, dry vacuum, and stain remover. As a mom with way too much on my plate, it was the multitasking upgrade I desperately needed.

Features That Stand Out

What makes the Shark EveryMess unique is that it handles wet cleanup, dry debris, and stain removal in one handheld device. Shark claims it delivers two times stronger suction, 30 times more stain-fighting power, and up to four times more pet hair pickup than comparable portable cleaners, and in day-to-day use, it feels appropriately powerful for its size.

Despite that strength, the vacuum maintains a compact, lightweight profile (measuring roughly 10.5×16.5×13.5 inches), making it easy to carry from room to room or pull out quickly for spot cleaning. It’s designed to work across carpet, tile, upholstery, and car interiors, which adds to its versatility. The included accessories are thoughtfully chosen, too. The stain eliminator tool features reversible bristles and fins for different surfaces, while the squeegee tool is best for cleaning liquids. You also get a full-size bottle of Shark’s StainForce cleaning solution, along with a reusable spray head, so you can swap in refill cartridges instead of buying a new bottle each time.

One of the smartest features is the dual-formula cleaning system, which mixes two solutions — one for deep cleaning dirt and grime and one for neutralizing stains — directly in the spray head. There’s no measuring or premixing required, and the low-moisture approach helps lift stains using less liquid overall. Finally, the hose is strong enough to handle everything from crumbs and dust to broken glass and spilled drinks. For easier disposal, the interior bin can even be lined with a standard 4- to 13-gallon trash bag, which helps streamline cleanup after especially messy jobs.

How It Performed

Setup was simple, with clear instructions for attaching the hose and tools. I’m a visual learner, so I also watched a short setup video online, which helped me feel confident using it right away. Once I got it going, here’s how it performed.

It tackled set-in couch stains.

One of my first big tests was deep-cleaning dried stains across our sectional couch. I followed the recommended steps: dry vacuum first, spray the solution, wait two minutes, spray again, scrub, and then vacuum everything up. Because the stains were older and widespread, I ended up cleaning the entire sectional to avoid water rings — which worked well, though it did use up most of the bottle.

It erased a fresh coffee spill on the carpet.

One standout moment came when I accidentally knocked over a full mug of coffee onto our beige playroom carpet. After following the steps, the dark stain vanished completely — and weeks later, you’d never know it happened. Cleanup is fast, too. That coffee spill took about three minutes total, including the two-minute wait time for the solution to set.

What we love

  • Handles dry debris, wet messes, and stains in one tool
  • Strong suction with no clogging
  • No premixing or measuring cleaning solutions
  • Compact, lightweight, and easy to store

Good to know

  • Not ideal for deep-cleaning very large upholstered pieces
  • Replacement solution cartridges are an ongoing cost

What We Love

  • Peace of mind for inevitable spills: It removes stains that feel disastrous in the moment — especially in homes with kids.
  • A true multitasker: One compact machine replaces several cleaning tools.
  • Fast cleanup: Most messes are handled in minutes, not an entire cleaning session.

Good to Know

  • Spot cleaning and smaller stains are its sweet spot; large upholstery jobs use more cleaning solution.
  • It’s designed for targeted messes, not whole-house vacuuming.
