This 506-square-foot London flat is a beautiful mix of cultures and styles thanks to the couple who purchased this one-bedroom, 120-year-old home three years ago. “I’m Brazilian and Chris is English, and our home has become a place where our tastes naturally come together rather than following any rules or trends,” Luiza Frediani Oxley begins.

"Our favorite things about our home are the pieces we’ve found secondhand that make it feel really personal. We love thrifting and charity shops, and a lot of our favorite items came from completely random finds," Luiza explains. "We also love our 1980s toucan lamp by H. T. Huang and our doce-age orange TV, which add a bit of fun and color and stop the space from feeling too serious. Those small, quirky pieces are what make the flat feel like ours. It’s less about everything matching and more about surrounding ourselves with things that make us smile."

“We both love interiors and see our flat as a creative space where we can play with color, vintage pieces, and artwork to build something that feels personal and expressive,” she continues. But it wasn’t going to necessarily be an easy job; Luiza describes the space as “investor special: all-gray, bland finishes, zero personality.”

"With my partner being a massive vinyl collector, the La Redoute Interieurs Ronda Unit was a total lifesaver. What I love most is how it bridges our worlds: It handles the practical side of his collection while the 1960s Brazilian-inspired design brings a piece of my heritage into our daily landscape. It’s the perfect 'common ground' piece for our styles," Luiza writes.

“Respect the bones of your home, but play with the styling. My best advice is to use retro silhouettes and bold colors to breathe life into traditional spaces,” Luiza advises.

“We’ve kept the soul of our London flat’s Edwardian architecture, but layered in mid-century textures and playful patterns to keep it from feeling like a museum. Decorate for the vibe you want to live in every day, not for a specific era.”
