This time of year, scrolling social media might leave you with the sudden urge to completely refresh your holiday decor. Perhaps with that viral Home Depot Christmas tree, a new garland, or some Ralph Lauren Christmas ornaments. But unless you’re decorating a hotel or hosting a hyper-specific holiday fete, there’s no need to tailor your holiday home decor to one trendy aesthetic.

Rather than get rid of decorations from previous years and start all over again, there are ways to zhuzh up your current collection — and countless low-cost DIY projects, like this year’s paper chain craze. But if you’re not crafty (or just looking for something a little more effortless), a stocking charm is a great way to spruce up your holiday decor without spending a ton of money or sacrificing the sentimentality of heirloom decorations.

How to Style a Stocking Charm

Similar to bag charms (which are having a major moment in fashion right now), stocking charms are a simple way to accessorize and personalize your holiday decor. Just add them to the loop at the top of your stocking, et voilà! Make a statement with a piece like the Terrain Beaded Mistletoe Stocking Charm, or opt for classic initial ornaments like the BaubleBar Merry Monogram Ornaments to help differentiate family members’ stockings.

When choosing your charm, we recommend staying away from traditional round and/or glass ornaments; this looks less intentional. Instead, look for metal, felt, or needlepoint ornaments that complement your stockings and other Christmas decorations. Check out a few of my favorite picks below for a dose of instant holiday charm (pun intended).
