If you’re looking for last-minute holiday gifts or stocking stuffers, you probably already know what I’m going to say: Head to T.J. Maxx. I’ve spent the past year, in particular, sharing my best tips for shopping T.J. Maxx stores and chronicling all the on-trend home decor styles the brand carries (Parisian and vintage-inspired, to name a few). So it’s probably no surprise that I’m back with one last plug for one of my favorite retailers because it’s where I actually shop for many of my holiday gifts.

And boy, did T.J. Maxx go all out this holiday shopping season with the debut of the Maxxinista Express, a double-decker bus tricked out with festive T.J. Maxx finds and maybe the cutest mini-kitchen I’ve ever seen in a mobile vehicle (see above). The plan? Take a group of superfans and a few lucky contest winners on a T.J. Maxx store-hopping road trip to finish off their holiday shopping lists (think: gifts galore and just general good holiday vibes).

The festive tour touched down in three cities this month, starting in Los Angeles, hitting Dallas, and concluding in Miami (where I, myself, got a chance to hop aboard). Each city featured a special host, and take it from me: As a girl whose T.J. Maxx game is pretty good, even I picked up a few shopping pointers.

The “Lap and End Cap” Method of Gift Shopping at T.J. Maxx

Which brings me to my latest shopping tip to help you navigate your closest T.J. Maxx store in search of the perfect last-minute gift. Just remember this catchy rhyming phrase: “Take a lap and don’t forget the end caps.” It’s a mix that myself and Kelcey Wetterberg, former NFL cheerleader and content creator who cohosted the Dallas “Maxx-Hopping” trip, came up with together when I asked her how she starts her shopping trips at T.J. Maxx over a Zoom call.

“I have my go-to stores, and I always plan to be there for a few hours,” Wetterberg told me. “I always start with a lap around the store and walk through all the aisles to get ideas — and I grab those first treasures that catch my eye.” Then, she dutifully goes back around, department by department, doing another more-thorough pass.

If you’re wondering what the end cap portion of this piece is, well, I won’t leave you hanging there, either. This is retail speak for those highly visible display fixtures at the ends of a store aisles. And if you’re looking for the cutest gifts during the holiday season at most stores, including T.J. Maxx, making a beeline to that area could get you to the good stuff pretty quickly (while you’re taking that initial lap that Wetterburg recommends).

T.J. Maxx also tends to trot out tables full of great giftables during this time, too, so look for these areas as well. Sometimes, they’re even denoted by red tablecloth-like coverings (TJX’s signature hue). Keep your eyes peeled for these areas; they’re a shopping shortcut that could save you time as you check those final gifts off your list.

To help you out with that further, I made a little list of things you can look for in your local store. Happy shopping and happy holidays! I’m sure I’ll be back with more Maxx hacks in 2026. It’s kind of my job.

“I have my eye on all the beauty sets,” Wetterberg says. “There’s something for everyone, from spa day themes with face masks to shaving kits. I love gifting a self-care moment.” The design lover in your life will be all about this William Morris-themed garden toiletry set that’s under $25 and contains five full-size products.
