The 1920s-Inspired Holiday Gems I’m Buying from The Home Depot Before They Sell Out
If you’re all about nostalgic holiday decorations, then you and I are kindred spirits. I still hang my great-grandmother’s ornaments from the 1940s on the tree every single year — and they’re still my absolute favorites. But if you don’t have vintage hand-me-downs, retailers are already putting out some of this year’s most nostalgic decor.
To give your home a bit more pizzazz in 2025, a strand of vintage-style Christmas lights is a surefire way to create a warm and fuzzy vibe and help your home look like it’s plucked from the time-worn illustration of a Christmas card. The Home Depot has a set that gets the stamp of approval from one very serious vintage Christmas lover. They’re that good.
“The Home Depot is selling vintage-style Christmas lights,” the creator behind the Vintage Christmas Commercials Instagram account, an account dedicated to all things vintage Christmas, said in a recent video. “Wow, they did a really great job with these.”
Large multicolored lights like The Home Depot’s strand were first manufactured in the early 1920s and remained popular through the 1970s. The bulbs came in both round and conical shapes, and were either made with clear colored glass or coated with colorful paints to give them a milky, soft glow.
What Makes The Home Depot’s Vintage Christmas Lights Special?
Similar to the Christmas lights of yore, this strand features clear glass bulbs that emit a warm glow despite being LED. And because they’re LED, they won’t get super hot like other vintage-style incandescent bulbs do. They’re C9 bulbs, which means they’re one of the larger Christmas light bulbs you can get. And they won’t flicker, which makes them easier on the eyes.
“These lights just hit different than the awful LED ones now,” one person commented on Vintage Christmas Commercials’ post. Another commenter added, “Just like the ones my grandma still has … sick!!!”
This specific box of 50 lights is exclusive to in-store shoppers at The Home Depot, but you can get a similar-looking set of 25 vintage-style lights for just under $15 online.
Have yourself a very vintage Christmas this year, and boost the nostalgia level to the max with these lights. They may be LED, but they have an incandescent spirit!
