Cozy living room with a fireplace, plants, colorful cushions, and a wooden coffee table, overlooking a balcony with potted plants.

Home decor trends come and go, but the rise and fall of popularity extends to flowers, too. According to The Sill’s 2025 Plant Trend Report & 2026 Predictions, a certain flower, which has long been deemed “dated,” is having a comeback. And if you’re considering what to gift your holiday host, you’ll want to keep reading.

What Flower Does the Sill Say Is Rising in Popularity?

Based on The Sill’s data, it turns out that the orchid was the second most-popular plant purchased by its customers this year (just behind olive trees and ahead of the Meyer lemon bush). The Sill reports that since caring for plants became a significant movement during the COVID-19 pandemic, plant parents’ confidence has grown, and they’re looking to embark on more challenging adventures. And caring for an orchid can definitely be a challenge.

Orchids like bright, indirect sunlight; a warm, humid environment; distilled water (and not too much of it!); and soil with proper drainage. They’re finicky, expensive, and require skill — and in 2025, Sill shoppers feel as though they’re finally ready for life with orchids. So if you’re visiting a plant person who’s looking for a gorgeous challenge, consider bringing one of these flowers.

The Sill also believes that orchids will only grow in popularity in the coming year. As plant parents achieve reblooms on their existing orchid plants, they’re becoming more invested and sharing the word that orchids are where it’s at. “Orchids are being reclaimed: Once deemed ‘dated,’ they’re now one of The Sill’s fastest-growing gift plants (+51% YoY), thanks to the thrill of getting them to rebloom,” The Sill’s press release states.

So if you want to really treat your plant-loving friend or family member to a gift they’ll love caring for, The Sill will be offering up to 50% off sitewide from 11/24 through 12/1 for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The flowers are officially back in fashion and will be the true test of any green-thumbed person’s plant care skills — they’re a challenge, but the payoff is so beautiful!
