This Cottagecore-Loving Content Creator Spends Her Sundays with Matcha, Yoga, and a Trip to the Greenhouse
Kaitlin Jokinen (@kaitlinathome) has the kind of home you want to get comfy in: Her 1930s apartment in Denver is an ode to all things cozy, whimsical, and sweetly nostalgic. Kaitlin decorates with an eye for patterns and a penchant for crafty DIYs, like re-covering a secondhand bench for her kitchenette or painting butter-yellow stripes on a plain white dresser. Add touches like lit candles and lush houseplants, and you have a cottagecore retreat with homey, lived-in texture.
Miracle-Gro® products help Kaitlin keep her plant roommates happy and healthy. From tropical plants to cacti and nutrition to overall health, Miracle-Gro products are expert-developed and easy enough for beginners to use. Along with regular watering and proper light, they give indoor plants what they need to thrive.
Kaitlin is still a bit new to plant parenthood, so she likes to incorporate plant care into an established routine until it becomes second nature. Her restful, reset-focused Sundays are a great way to do just that. Beginning with a morning stop at her local greenhouse and ending with a restorative yoga routine at home, Kaitlin prioritizes relaxation to prepare for another busy week. Here’s what a typical Sunday looks like.
Matcha: I immediately make a caffeinated beverage after waking up. I’ll swap out different beverages depending on the season, but lately I’ve been drinking iced matcha. I will choose an iced beverage over a hot one most days of the year, but I’ll drink out of a mug when I want a cozier vibe.
Greenhouse: I’ve loved incorporating plants into my space, and a visit to my local greenhouse feels like the perfect Sunday activity. I particularly like the look of long, vining plants such as pothos or philodendrons, especially since they are on the hardier side.
Plant Parenting: As someone still working out the responsibilities of plant parenthood, I like to incorporate plant care into my Sunday routine. I’ll water my plants and feed them Miracle-Gro Indoor Plant Food. I’ll also do any other care they might need, like repotting with Miracle-Gro Indoor Potting Mix or using Miracle-Gro Plant Care Leaf Protect and Shine to give the leaves a beautiful gloss. Establishing this routine has helped me to stop forgetting when I last watered my plants, and it’s become a therapeutic part of my Sunday ritual.
Evening Yoga: Yoga is my workout of choice, and if I’m not able to make it into my studio, it’s nice to have a peaceful corner at home to practice in. When practicing at home, I’ll light a candle and put on a YouTube class from the comfort of my living room.
Do Not Disturb: I like to block out my Sunday evenings for doing nothing in my apartment. With decorating, I want to make my apartment my favorite place to relax, and plants have definitely brought more relaxing energy into my space. Whether I’m reading or watching reruns of my favorite show, there’s something about being surrounded by plants that makes it more enjoyable.
