This Headboard Hack Will Make Your Guest Room the Most Flexible (and Comfy!)
If you have a guest room, you have to get extra creative with your space, especially if it’s on the diminutive side. In a small space, it might even make more sense to have two twin beds — or maybe you just want to give your guests the option to sleep in their own bed rather than share a queen or king bed.
To make twin beds feel less like an elementary school sleepover and more like a hotel suite, consider using a king-size headboard (or larger!) as a backdrop for both twin beds. It’s a creative solution I spotted on Instagram recently via French and French Interiors that I was totally wowed by.
The design house recently utilized the creative strategy in a client’s guest room, where they wanted to give the homeowners the flexibility of hosting weekend guests in either two twin beds or one king. To create a space that could flex with their needs, they commissioned an expansive patterned headboard that spans much of the wall, acting as a backdrop for whatever configuration suits weekend guests best.
If you can’t craft an oversized headboard yourself, you can shop for a king headboard that has large proportions and mount it to the wall. For a look similar to the bold style French and French Interiors used in their recent project, try this camelback headboard from The Inside. Available in dozens of custom fabrics and easily mounted to the wall, it’s a great way to get a luxe look for far less than the price of two twin bedframes.
By centering your guest room around the two twin beds and the accompanying king headboard, you’ll create a bonus sleeping option, save money on two separate headboards (or a giant king mattress, for that matter), and there will be less visual clutter. All in all? Everyone wins — including your guests.
