Matching bedroom furniture sets — and furniture sets in general — have gotten a bad rap for being stuck in the past. I don’t want to yuck anyone’s yum, though, because I know why matching bedroom furniture sets appeal to shoppers: It’s hard to pull disparate pieces together for an artful, eclectic look that still feels visually coherent. This is especially true when it comes to mixing wood finishes because too many can send a space into overwhelming territory. That’s exactly why I’ve fallen in love with the brand Thuma.

As a purveyor of real-wood furniture, Thuma’s all about quality and simplicity. The brand has made the idea of matching the finish of your bed to your nightstands — and perhaps even your dresser — look intentional and elegant. That’s probably because the San Francisco-based company focuses on timeless, streamlined silhouettes that are, in many cases, modular and easy to assemble (and reassemble) if need be. The prices aren’t cheap, but this is forever furniture, IMO.

A Brief History of Thuma

Thuma first burst onto the scene with the launch of its first bed, The Classic, which features Japanese joinery and a tool-less assembly. The point of this bed, though, was never about a gimmick. The idea was to bring a beautiful, easy, minimalist, sustainable, real-wood option to the market for people who wanted a better bed-buying (and assembling and even sleeping) experience. Aesthetically, the bed adapts to many different interior styles, and so began Thuma’s story of championing investment pieces that last — and can grow and evolve with you as your own design journey unfolds.

You won’t find a million finish options or product choices with Thuma. Ease is the name of the game here. Wooden pieces generally come in four finishes (walnut, natural, espresso, grey), and category expansions have happened over time, thoughtfully, and with discretion for the amount of product options available.

Thuma’s Latest Offerings

Take, for example, the brand’s Nest Dresser. The unit consists of solid, upcycled wood with soft-close drawers, and it can be configured in a series of ways to fit a variety of spaces. You can stack drawers up to create a tall boy, or put a few units side by side for a more sprawled-out design. You can also remove or add pieces to it down the line, when your storage needs or space changes. Many of Thuma’s more recent additions, from bookshelves to credenzas, follow this modular model that’s perfect for small-space dwellers.

Lately, Thuma has been venturing into upholstered offerings (beds were first here, too) and even a collaboration with Heller on a tabletop line. They now sell mattresses, bedding and bath linens, and rugs as well and have a brick-and-mortar showroom in New York City, where you can see pieces in person. I picked a few of my favorites, though, so you can go straight to what the brand does best and see the latest and greatest.

Thuma Signature Bed, Queen
$2,195$1,795

Touting a fully-upholstered frame, Thuma’s latest bedroom launch, the Signature Bed, comes in four different linen colorways (and four wool felt options) and is a total style chameleon, thanks to its hybrid clean lines and soft curves. You can order as seen here, with a headboard, for a more traditional look, or go the more modern route with just the platform base.

Thuma Nest Dresser
$1,150

The 4x1 Nest Dresser would look handsome in a bedroom, even if you match its finish to your bed exactly. What’s nice, too is that the unit is stackable, so you could add (or subtract) future drawers down the line.

Thuma + Heller Max Breakfast Set
$70

This cute little gray and white breakfast set features eight items — two cups, two saucers, two bowls, and two plates — while marrying Thuma’s minimalist vibe to Heller’s signature silhouettes. Pieces stack for easy storage, and the set is fine for the dishwasher’s top rack.

Thuma Classic Nightstand
$890

Twenty inches wide by 20 inches high and 15 inches deep, the Classic Nightstand can squeeze into fairly tight spots. It also features a drawer for closed storage, so you can keep your bedside belongings out of sight and out of mind while you sleep.

Thuma Hybrid Mattress
$1,595

In addition to Thuma’s modern bedroom furniture, the brand’s Hybrid Mattress (and selection of bedding) really makes the brand a one-stop shop for all things bedroom. Made in the USA, this coil-meets-memory-foam style with organic latex and organic wool layers comes in plush, medium, and firm fills.

Sized just right for Thuma’s beds, this marbled wool rug is soft underfoot and won’t distract from the rest of your bedroom in any of its soothing, neutral colorways. Newer paneled styles are also available, if you’re looking for even more texture underfoot.
