When T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, or HomeGoods starts carrying a new category of merchandise, you bet I take notice. It’s almost embarrassing how often I hit my trio of local stores in search of deals. I’ve been a fan of the brands’ coffee table book assortment for a while now; the prices are truly the best around. But a few trips ago, I noticed the stationery aisle had a new addition that has since expanded its footprint in some locations: best-selling novels and paperbacks.

Now, I’m not telling you to buy all of your books at TJX stores. First of all, inventory is limited, and your local small-business bookstore is always worth supporting. Some of you may be e-reader or library people, and I respect that. But for that viral fantasy trilogy you’re wondering if you’d like, or an easy, impulse spring break or summer beach read, you might be able to find it at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, or HomeGoods.

So far, I’ve spied titles by romance juggernauts Emily Henry and Abby Jimenez, several famed book-to-Netflix franchises, best-selling hardcover biographies, and critically acclaimed books by Barbara Kingsolver and Ann Patchett. Lately, the zeitgeisty classics have been in stock (hello, Wuthering Heights and Little Women!). I’ve even seen the aesthetic Jane Austen set here for just $70 (versus $90 to $100 retail).

More than once, a book on my current “to read” list has also popped up here (and typically the prices are lower than Amazon’s prices). If you find yourself stocking up, you can always pay it forward by passing along some copies to a friend or ultimately donating anything you don’t have space for on your bookshelves.

Most titles are between $8.99 and $12.99, with the occasional $16.99 hardcover thrown in. I feel like this is a fun, little luxury you can snag while shopping, and I’ve enjoyed seeing what books are in different stores. Of course, the selection is always changing, so you have to keep checking back, like any other category of merchandise.

You can find these books at your local stores — most aren’t available online — typically in the home department’s stationery aisle. Some stores also have a small selection at the cash wrap, so keep your eyes peeled while you’re standing in line.

And there you have it: One more reason, in my book, to love T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods
