My reach-in closet is a good size, but coming from a long line of much smaller closets in past homes, I find myself holding onto things longer and packing them into every nook and cranny. Scarves, jewelry, hats, and handbags currently live in separate, unorganized piles, which makes sifting through accessories when getting ready in the morning feel more like a chore than an experience. I used to love playing dress up, but the daunting task of pulling out bins and reaching high up in shelves has dimmed my inspiration and dulled my style.

After discovering how a toilet paper holder could double as a cute kitchen storage gem, I’ve been obsessed with how versatile this little brass basket really is. So, naturally, I started thinking where else I could use one and discovered this Apartment Therapy article sharing that you could use it in the closet for some bonus storage. I knew I had to give it a try.

Why a Toilet Paper Holder Is a Brilliant Closet Storage Gem

A chic toilet paper holder, like this one from Amazon, works as a clever and stylish storage station anywhere you put it, including the closet. Its small size and open design make it perfect for holding everyday accessories you actually want within reach. Instead of disappearing into bins or high shelves, scarves, sunglasses, and jewelry can live in a spot that’s easy to access.

What Happened When I Put a Toilet Paper Holder in My Closet

I have a cute shelf built into a corner nook that I keep my perfumes along an empty patch of wall. It’s simple but begging for an update. Though it can use a complete overhaul, I figured the best place to begin is with this toilet paper holder hack that’s proven so successful in the past. And while the ideas of what I can place in it are endless, I wanted it to feel intentional and functional.

Once I mounted the brass holder (no screws, just the same double-sided tape trick I used in the kitchen), it instantly elevated the space. I tested a few things, from a trailing plant to a small bowl of perfume samples, but ultimately found it came to life as a catchall for accessories I can reach for every day, like a silky scarf, a pair of sunglasses, and my favorite gold hoops. It has quickly become this unexpected little styling station, almost like a built-in boutique that I can shop before running out the door every morning.

Whether I’m wearing leggings and a T-shirt, a little black dress, or jeans and a knitted sweater, this setup calls to me as a reminder to elevate my look with even a simple added detail. Sometimes it’s a swipe of lipstick or a cute brooch, but I can always find something in my little brass basket of tricks to make me feel a little more put together. It’s a small touch, but one that makes getting dressed feel more like a ritual and less like something I try to power through.
