After years of hating my couch, I finally got rid of it when I found my dream sectional last year. There’s just one small problem: It’s a good two feet longer than my previous sofa, which ultimately leaves very little room for a side table or storage of any kind.

As someone who spends most of her couch time with a crochet hook in hand, I can’t go without a spot to stash away my yarn and other miscellaneous items that always end up cluttering the coffee table. Plus, aside from the storage, I think that an end table moment makes a living room feel more cozy and lived-in.

However, finding a side table that fit the sliver of space between my couch and wall was no easy feat. And after exhausting nearly every option, I found the perfect piece from an unexpected place: the Jane Round Upholstered Storage Nightstand from Urban Outfitters.

What I Love About the Jane Round Upholstered Storage Nightstand

I’m actually a dedicated long-time UO shopper (I even worked there in my early 20s!) and have always loved their home decor section; but I’ve always associated the retailer with fun dorm decor or first apartment finds — as a married woman in her mid-30s, I’m not quite their target demographic. But luckily I was mistaken: Urban Outfitters has some seriously stylish furniture pieces (that might even rival Anthropologie’s).

When I saw this cute and compact circular nightstand, it absolutely stole my heart. It features a tiered design with upholstered sides and a tabletop and an interior shelf made of acacia wood. The top is spacious, with enough room for a lamp and trinkets, too.

How I Styled My New Nightstand in My Living Room

The middle shelf is big enough to fit a small basket, such as the IKEA FLÅDIS basket that I use to hide my crochet clutter. It also has a spacious opening under the interior shelf that you could use as a cubby for an additional basket, or even a folded blanket. What makes this piece different from most end tables is that its sides are enclosed, so it hides all of that clutter (and with such a luxurious leopard print!) while still keeping everything easily accessible.

In addition to adding more surface space and storage to your living room, this nightstand could also work well as a plant stand or clutter catcher for small entryways. You could even stash your house slippers in the cubby area, and keep your handbag or a basket for your scarves and gloves on the interior shelf. This piece might be billed as a nightstand, but the possibilities are endless. Sadly my leopard print version is sold out, but don’t worry — you can still snag one in this gorgeous olive green.
