As someone who’s been writing about cleaning for over a decade, I’ve tested more products, routines, and hacks than I can count. My favorite part, though, is always discovering clever little tricks that make chores easier and less frequent (like the 3-30 rule) — because the real goal is enjoying your home (and the people in it), not spending endless hours scrubbing.

Recently, I came across a brilliant trick for cleaning baseboards that completely changed the way I do this dreaded chore. Not only did it make the job faster, but it also cut down on how often I needed to do it. Win-win.

What Is This Brilliant Baseboard Cleaning Trick?

I spotted this brilliant trick on the Instagram account @carecleaning. The method combines two tools you probably already have at home: a vacuum cleaner and a dryer sheet. Used together, they not only pick up dirt and dust but also leave behind a coating that helps repel it — meaning your baseboards stay cleaner longer.

How I Clean My Baseboards with a Dryer Sheet and Vacuum

Here’s how I put the hack to the test on my own very dusty baseboards.

  1. Take one dryer sheet (scented or unscented) and wrap it around your vacuum’s brush attachment, securing it with a rubber band or hair tie.
  2. Use the vacuum to run along your baseboards, letting the suction pull up dust and the dryer sheet trap it.

That’s it!

The Results

I was honestly surprised by how well this worked. The vacuum pulled up pet hair, dust, and dirt, while the dryer sheet grabbed the debris and held onto it instead of letting it swirl around. Even better, the dryer sheet left behind that dust-repelling finish without me having to go back over everything by hand.

One tip I’ll use next time: Attach the brush to the vacuum hose instead of the main unit. That way, you don’t even need to bend down — the hack becomes almost effortless. This simple vacuum-and-dryer-sheet trick gets you that just-cleaned look with half the effort.
