With the fall season officially here, some would-be gardeners who missed their chance to flex the ol’ green thumb may be experiencing regrets. Fortunately, there’s no need to wait until next spring to try again. There are a ton of alternate gardening options, and this personalized home garden known as the Verdeat is a pretty cool one.

According to its Kickstarter page, Verdeat is a “modular fully automatic gardening system” crafted from environmentally friendly materials. It’s equipped to grow up to 76 (!) 100% organic and pesticide-free plants, and the main purpose  is to help people contribute to the ecosystem, maintain healthier diets, and save cash and resources in the process.

So here’s how it works: The system operates indoors and there’s no soil involved. With the assistance of an accompanying app, Verdeat is self-sustainable for between one and three weeks, which instantly eliminates some of the traditional challenges that come with gardening. The app controls the amount of water and nutrients delivered to the plants so the user doesn’t have to worry about over or under-watering and feeding issues.

The system comes with a 19-pod seeding tray and has an estimated growth time of three to four weeks. The microgreens tray fits 4 microgreens pads with an estimated growth time between 7-10 days; finally, the pot tray functions like a plant or herb that’s purchased from the grocery store.

After setting up your respective trays, simply add water to the main tank and the necessary vegan nutrients, initiate the app, choose the tray and watch your plants, herbs or flowers grow. And in the name of sustainability and eco-consciousness, Verdeat creators promise to give back to their customers and nature.

“With each purchase we will plant a tree and  give you 3 tree seeds to cultivate in Verdeat and then plant in your neighborhood as a way of giving back to nature,” the creators write.

The Verdeat has surpassed its campaign goal, but there’s still time left to become a backer. Units start at $174 and are estimated to ship in February 2020.
