When I first moved into my 1960s-era Los Angeles apartment four years ago, there was one purchase I was actually excited to tap my credit card for: my very first dining table. My previous space had no designated dining area, so my husband and I usually ate on barstools at the kitchen counter. The thought of having an actual table where we could sit down not shoulder-to-shoulder and share a meal was honestly thrilling. (Not to mention all of the opportunities for tablescape decor!)

As a vintage collector, I dreamed of finding a perfectly lived-in kitchen table at a local antique mall — maybe even the Rose Bowl Flea Market. I wanted something that was high-quality, made of solid wood, and — most importantly — a worthy centerpiece for the 100-year-old dining chairs I inherited from my best friend’s mom before she passed. Budget, time, and car size didn’t allow for it, though, so I began to browse the virtual aisles of Target instead; and I’m so glad I did.

What Is the Threshold Astrid Mid-Century Round Extendable Dining Table?

On a whim, I ordered the Threshold Astrid Mid-Century Round Extendable Dining Table, crossing my fingers and toes that the maple brown color would complement the antique chairs and create the illusion of a set. Now, four years later, it’s one of the best game-time decor decisions I’ve ever made.

The table is perfect for small kitchen spaces like mine — it measures 30 inches tall, 40 inches wide, and 40 inches long — but it can expand to be up to 52 inches, thanks to a center leaf that allows it to go from round to oval shape with ease. It’s super easy to expand, too; I simply tuck the leaf away under the couch when I’m not using it, and drop it in as needed. It’s perfect for those who love to host despite space constraints.

Why I Love It

Although it’s not made from the heavy wood I had in mind, the Astrid Mid-Century Round Dining Table is constructed from solid rubberwood. It features a durable design that has withstood countless dinner parties and craft nights, and even doubles as my work desk most days.

Better yet, the walnut-toned wood finish is beautiful and matches my other vintage furniture so well. It feels like a close cousin to my chairs, helping them shine without stealing their spotlight.

While it normally retails for $360, the brown colorway is on sale right now for $288. Either way, I can confirm — it’s a great deal for a table this stylish and high-quality. Whether you’re a certified mid-century modern enthusiast or just a casual vintage collector, this table will fit so well with a variety of different decor styles.
