This Unexpected Vintage Find Is Making a Comeback in 2026

Vintage, sporty style has made a big impact in the design world this year, likely thanks to the simultaneous revival of other classic, preppy styles, like Ralph Lauren Christmas decor and equestrian aesthetics. We’ve already seen vintage staples like the varsity letterman jacket thrive in fashion, while in the home, details from varsity-inspired pennant flags to trophy collections put on display and retro color palettes in general make a sporty statement, too. 

Now, a cheeky new take on this vintage-inspired trend is totally taking over my Pinterest feed — and it’s not something you’d normally think of when it comes to home decor. Reintroducing your new favorite accessory: the prize ribbon.

If you grew up playing sports, winning science fairs, or riding horses, you’re probably familiar with the iconic “prize ribbon” motif. The ribbon style actually traces back to military medals, imbuing it with a sense of honor, service, and recognition. Now the iconic microtrend blends in flawlessly with the preppy Americana style, making us look at everything from our grandmother’s handsewn quilts to salvaged antique signage a little differently. 

So far, this particular motif has become prominent as a fashion trend, with designers and DIYers alike putting their own spin on the style. However, as often happens, we’re slowly seeing it pop up in home decor, too, from throw pillows to wall hangings and beyond. We’ve even seen framed wall art featuring first-place ribbons, as well as kitschy tufted bath mats.  

You can also use the prize ribbons you might already have tucked away in a keepsake box to create a personalized decor piece. Cluster a few together in a frame with a coordinating colorful mat for your gallery wall, fill a clear jar or vase with the ribbons to showcase on a bookshelf, or tack them to a round corkboard with a visible background for a unique wall-hanging design.
