The Renter-Friendly Wall Art Hack That Made My Space So Cozy for Fall
Making a rental feel cozy is a unique challenge, especially because, as a renter, you’re limited to what you can put on the walls. Tacked-up posters don’t really scream “I’m an adult,” and I’m at a point where I want my decor to look a little more elevated.
I spend a lot of time in my home office, which was feeling particularly neglected while I focused on collecting thrifted decor for the shared spaces in my home, like the living room and dining area. But I’ve always dreamed of having my own little cozy corner where I can listen to a favorite record or curl up with my current favorite romantasy novel.
I recently got a gorgeous Biquette throw blanket, and instead of using it the traditional way, I went after making my cozy dreams come true.
Armed with my new Flora Vision blanket by Frances MacLeod, and a 12-pack of Command strips, I set out to create my dream cozy corner.
How to Hang Your Throw Blanket on the Wall
To hang the blanket on my wall, I attached 12 pairs of 3M Command strips (the kind with velcro hooks) along the underside of the blanket, concentrating on the top and sides to help it hold. I placed a pair of Command strips in each of the throw’s four corners, as well as four along the top of the blanket and two along each side. There are countless ways to hang a tapestry or other fabric art, so you can try whatever other method you like as well.
Why I Love the Faux-Tapestry Look
Styled on the wall like a tapestry, the throw adds visual interest and layered texture to balance out my decor, which keeps the space from looking too uniform and cold. The cozy, colorful knit instantly makes the area look warm and welcoming. I added a modern leather chair for comfort and varied texture, as well as a simple floor lamp and a wooden shelf. Last but not least, a scented candle and matches — non-negotiables for any comfy spot.
So if you too want to cozy up your space for fall, think about promoting your throw blankets from couch to wall. Grab one from your linen closet or off your bed, or use it as an excuse to invest in a beautiful new piece like I did. A throw is still a lot less expensive than most large-format wall art or traditional “tapestries,” and if I ever get tired of it, I know I can remove it no problem (thanks to the Command strips), and repurpose the throw as a chic accent for a chair. That’s a win-win in my book!
