Once Christmas has come and gone and all the decorations are put away, thinking about an upcoming New Year’s Eve party can feel like a slog. But you don’t have to invest in an entirely new set of trimmings for the upcoming holiday. Instead just pick up a few extra decor staples and a bit of tape, and you’ll be ready to host the best New Year’s Eve party ever.

“All you need is a streamer door curtain and some scissors! How fun is this??” Shannon Doherty (@athomewithshannon) wrote in a recent TikTok caption. In the video, Doherty shared how she cut a basic streamer door curtain into segments and then stuck those segments to her ceiling to create a tinsel-like look in her dining room.

Door Streamers Are Such a Versatile NYE Party Decoration

By using silver streamers (or whichever color you prefer!) and low lighting alongside colorful balloons, you can create a super-fun, nostalgic atmosphere to help ring in the new year.

“Simple but super super cute,” one person commented on Doherty’s post. Another commenter added, “What great idea, I’ll definitely be doing this for New Year’s Eve.”

Walmart sells silver foil door curtains for just $7, or you can grab a pack of two for just over $10. Cut the curtains into smaller sections and use adhesive to stick the sections to the ceiling. A lot of people in the comment section suggested using painter’s tape or a combo of glue dots stuck onto painter’s tape, but you should experiment with adhesives on your own ceiling before completing the entire project.

Doherty also demonstrates how you can trim these streamers to various lengths to create a bit of dimension in the space. You may want to keep longer ones off to the side so your guests don’t get tangled; hanging shorter ones above your dining room table could be a fun way to add sparkle and shine without relying on a centerpiece alone.

Pick up a couple of streamer door curtains ahead of your New Year’s Eve party, and totally transform your house with just a few snips. New Year’s Eve decorations don’t have to be expensive to make a big impact!
