These $5 Mini Christmas Tree Storage Containers Are So Cute (They’re Great for Gift Giving!)

There’s a lot of stuff to buy during the holidays, so when I come across something that’s fun, festive, functional, and can make a nice gift, it tends to stand out — especially when it’s also super affordable. This cute little Christmas tree-shaped storage container from Walmart checks all these boxes, and can be easily turned into the custom gift basket of your holiday dreams.

This cute plastic Christmas tree container from Walmart is hollow and transparent green. It stands upright, like a real tree would, but this tree splits into two pieces and can be filled with whatever you wish. It’s 18 inches tall, about 7.5 inches wide, and 10 inches deep, so it’ll make a statement on a shelf or a party table, but it won’t take up too much space. Plus, it’s only $5.

In an Instagram video by gift-oriented content creator Ashley McLaughlin, she treats this box almost like a stocking, filling it with little treats and trinkets like holiday-themed Nerds Gummy Clusters (honestly, great choice) and Poppi soda, chocolates, and lip balm. She also adds cute little plastic gingerbread men (also from Walmart), which I thought were just for decoration, but they’re actually also bag clips for your candy gift!

To make things extra festive, she adds red and green crinkle paper to the inside and decorates the tree with “tinsel” (ribbon) and “ornaments” (sparkly confetti dots), then tops it off with a personalized gift tag. Plus, after the recipient has opened their gift, they can use the tree container for storage or decoration at home, or even use it as a base for their very own gift basket creation.

This is ultimately just a Christmas tree-shaped container, so it’s up to you to figure out how to turn it into a festive gift full of little delights. You can use McLaughlin’s selections as inspiration for your tree-shaped gift basket, or you can take your own approach. Some ideas: mini bottles of wine and little wheels of Babybel cheese, an assortment of sample-size makeup and skincare products, mini hot sauce bottles and jars of jam, dollar bills folded into origami shapes, art supplies, playing cards, and Christmas cookies. 

Because this container is transparent, its contents will be at least somewhat visible, but if you want to add an air of mystery, line the inside with wrapping paper or, if you’re crafty, collage or paint the outside. It’ll be a fun project for you and a thoughtful gift for them.
