The Reason Why This Beloved Bourbon Is Considered the “Best in the World”

Rooted in tradition and well-respected in the wine and spirits community, the IWSC has existed since 1969. This year, over 200 international experts blindly tasted more than 4,000 spirits from all over the world to find out which ones reign supreme. In the bourbon category, Frank August’s Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon came out on top. 

Frank August’s Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon is made in small batches (10 to 15 barrels, to be exact) and distilled, aged, and bottled in Kentucky. At the IWSC, it received 98 points out of a possible 100 (a gold outstanding ranking, aka one of the judges’ most exceptional spirits). The judges raved over the American-made bourbon, saying, “The alluring aroma presents a delightful mix of apple tart, custard, and intriguing dried apricots. On the palate, a refined medley of buckwheat honey, dried apricots, vanilla, and warm spice unfolds, while the finish offers a satisfying hint of leather.”

The bourbon’s got a rich, auburn color and full legs that coat the glass (an indicator of the alcohol content, which is 50% ABV or 100 proof). The bourbon is packaged in a beautiful 750-milliliter glass bottle that is so stunning, you’ll want to leave it out on your bar cart. Frank August’s Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon is sold at liquor stores nationwide, and online at retailers such as Total Wine. You can also find it at select bars and restaurants. 

Don’t just take the judges word for it, though: People on Reddit also raved over this bourbon, with one person saying, “Man that is really good. It’s approachable enough for new bourbon drinkers while staying interesting enough for the more experienced among us.” Another said, “I’d buy it for the bottle alone.”
