The Best Pottery Barn Sheets for Every Kind of Sleeper, According to Our Editors
I’ve tested many, many home products over the past few years, but I think I can speak for myself and my coworkers when I say we’ve tried out more bedsheets than anything else. Why? Well, there are what seems like endless materials to choose from. I’ve had linen sheets on my bed at one point, and the next week, flannel. There are also a range of benefits that a set might offer, whether it’s cooling capabilities, a cute print, or straps on each corner to keep them in place.
When searching for sheets, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all of the options, especially when you consider how many brands make them. That’s where our team comes into play. We know which ones are (and aren’t) worth the splurge, and Pottery Barn is definitely in the “worth it” category. To make your shopping experience even more seamless, I’ve put a list together of all of the Pottery Barn sheets we’ve loved. Keep reading to figure out which one is right for you.
Things to Consider When Buying Bedsheets
We have a full guide to buying bedsheets, but the following are some things to consider as you’re checking out our favorite sets from Pottery Barn.
Are you a hot or cold sleeper?
Depending on if you find yourself shivering or sweating at night — or you lie somewhere in between — your sheets have a hand in how rested you feel the next day. It’s all about finding the right material, whether it’s insulating or breathable. “Hot sleepers should look for linen and percale sheets that will allow more airflow and cold sleepers should seek twill or sateen sheets to create a warmer bed,” Vicki Fulop, cofounder of Brooklinen, told Apartment Therapy.
Materials
Pottery Barn offers sheets in a wide variety of materials, including TENCEL and sateen, and the brand even breaks down its bedding into fabric categories here. The ones we’ve tested are made of:
- Cotton percale: It provides that classic, crisp feel and matte look that you usually find on hotel beds. The “one-over-one-under” weave gives it a lightweight, breathable feel. Since it doesn’t trap heat, the material is cool to the touch. (Check out our favorite cotton percale sheets.)
- Belgian flax linen: Durable and breathable, linen is made of a plant called flax. The Belgian variety is known for its high quality. It has a loose weave, which gives it its airiness, but the fibers are thick and strong and a bit rougher than cotton. It’s also hypoallergenic, bacteria-resistant, and sustainable. (Shop the best linen sheets we’ve tested.)
- Cotton jersey: Often compared with a worn T-shirt, jersey has an elastic feel to it due to its loose knit. It’s wrinkle-resistant and easy to care for. It’s also ideal for sleepers that run hot, cold, and anywhere in between. (Here are our top picks for jersey sheets.)
Certifications
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified: Ensures every component of a product has been tested and is free of harmful chemicals, synthetics, and dyes
What We Look for in Bedsheets
We test sheets, across a wide range of brands and materials, for weeks and even months. Generally, we judge them all based on the following criteria:
- Feel: How do the sheets feel out of the box? Are they heavy and rough or airy and soft? Are they comfortable to sleep on? Do they need to be broken in?
- Durability: Is there any sign of piling or shedding? Do the sheets feel thick enough to prevent shredding? Do they get softer with time and washing?
- Availability: Can the sheets be purchased as a set or only as a fitted sheet? Are there a variety of color options and sizes?

The 400-Thread-Count Organic Percale Sheet Set
If you find yourself wishing you could re-create that perfect hotel bed you slept in on vacation, then this is the set for you. The Organic Percale Sheets have no synthetic materials built into them, which adds to their breathability. Right out of the package, their feel wasn’t rough, but it also wasn’t buttery-soft. Apartment Therapy’s former executive commerce director, Mark, says they softened more over the course of a few weeks. They became so comfortable that he “practically had to force [himself] to get out of bed each morning.”
He also put them to the test during a New York City winter. “Because my building controls the heat in my apartment, the temperature in my studio was also all over the place — when Jack Frost wasn’t nipping at my nose, it felt like I was living on the surface of the sun. Through it all, I slept comfortably using just the 400-Thread-Count Organic Percale Sheets and an all-season comforter, and I never awakened feeling too cold or too hot.”
Specifications:
- 100% organic cotton percale
- Includes flat sheet, fitted sheet, and 2 standard pillowcases (1 for twin)
- Available in 5 colors and 5 sizes
- 16 inches deep
- Global Organic Textile Standard- and Fair Trade-certified

The Belgian Flax Linen Hemstitch Sheet Set
With summer quickly approaching, you may be considering finally taking the plunge on linen sheets. Trust me: You’ll be glad you did. I’ve owned these sheets for over a year now, and they came in clutch when my terrible window AC barely cooled down my apartment last summer. They’re so lightweight that it’s easy to forget they’re even there, and paired with a light comforter, it’s a match made in heaven. This was the first linen set I ever owned — after only using cotton for the most part — but it didn’t take long for me to realize why many shoppers love the material.
I also fell head over heels for the linen look. Even when my bed is unmade and the sheets are wrinkled, it looks intentional and put-together. I like the fact that you can see the weave — and Pottery Barn offers a whopping 40 colors, and you can show off whichever one you choose by putting the included pillowcases on display.
Specifications:
- 100% Belgian flax linen
- Includes flat sheet, fitted sheet, and 2 standard pillowcases (1 for twin)
- Available in 40 colors and 4 sizes
- 16 inches deep
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100- and Fair Trade-certified
- Machine wash on warm and gentle cycle; tumble dry on low

The Favorite Tee Organic Sheet Set
If softness is a priority for you, then you can’t go wrong with my other favorite set from Pottery Barn. Its name is absolutely spot-on, because there’s no breaking-in period here. When I pair them with my plush mattress topper, I feel like I’m being enveloped by a marshmallow every time I put them on my bed. It always fits securely around my mattress, contributing to its supersmooth feel. There’s no wrinkling or bunching to be seen, even after a week (or two weeks, I’ll admit it) of use. I haven’t spotted any signs of wear after half a year of use either.
“Its weight is the perfect middle ground, not as breezy as my summer sheets and not as heavy as my winter flannel ones,” my review says. “The jersey also looks as gorgeous as it feels; if you go with one of the colored or striped options, the material’s heathered effect looks just like a well-worn T-shirt.”
Specifications:
- 100% organic cotton jersey
- Includes flat sheet, fitted sheet, and 2 standard pillowcases (1 for Twin)
- Available in 11 colors/prints and 4 sizes
- 16 inches deep
- Global Organic Textile Standard- and Fair Trade-certified
- Machine washable
