This Quilt Is the Perfect Weight — And It Took Me 2 Years to Find It
As someone who tests out home products for a living, I change out my bedding often, but I definitely have favorites by now. There are some things that I would keep on my bed all the time if I could, like my cooling pillow from Sijo and my buttery-soft sheets from Ettitude. Something else I miss when it isn’t included in my bedscape? Brooklinen’s Lightweight Cotton Quilt. After owning it for a year, it’s become one of my all-time pieces of bedding. Even better, it’s 15% off through October 8 during Brooklinen’s Big Deals Sale.
What Is the Brooklinen Lightweight Cotton Quilt?
Since it came onto the home goods scene a little over a decade ago, Brooklinen has become known for its high level of quality. Our editors have joined the brand’s ranks of fans in that time, too. Brooklinen has also made appearances on our Best List over the years; most recently, it earned a spot on our list of favorite bed blankets.
But I’m here to talk about the Lightweight Cotton Quilt, which delivers on all fronts. It’s comfortable and easy to care for since it consists of 100% cotton, with a breezy polypropylene fill. It’s also put through the garment-dying process, which gives it a lived-in look and feel. And it comes in six colors that’ll liven up your bedscape. The brand is offering a few neutrals as well as two new colors — a sky blue and dusty pink. The hand-stitching rounds everything off so nicely.
Why I Love the Brooklinen Lightweight Cotton Quilt
Believe it or not, this quilt is actually the first item I’ve ever owned from Brooklinen. After hearing so many good things about its sheets, I’d been wanting to get my hands on one of its items for a while. The only trouble I had was deciding where to start, but then I saw our glowing review of the brand’s linen quilt. I figured that the cotton version would be the perfect introduction to the brand. Based on its description, it appeared to be the versatile, low-maintenance layering piece that my bed was missing.
My hunch was spot on. I started using this quilt in the fall — which was also the same time I was recovering from Achilles tendon repair surgery. Getting comfortable at night was a true feat, especially during those first few weeks with a cast. I couldn’t put something too heavy on top of me, or else I would feel even more suffocated than I already did. The lingering October heat made matters worse. Once I ditched my comforter for this quilt, a weight was (literally) lifted off of me.
On its own, this quilt is just substantial enough to be cozy, helped along by the fact that the material is so broken-in that it feels like I’ve owned it for years. Once my cast was off and I could layer my bed for winter a few weeks later, it provided that extra bit of warmth on top of my down alternative comforter. The deep green color made it even more perfect for the season, adding a subtle bit of festiveness. Still, much like its weight, it’s a neutral hue that works all year long.
All of that, and it’s totally sturdy. Unlike my comforter, it’s easy to shove in a washing machine. I’ve always followed the instructions — selecting a cold and gentle cycle — and it hasn’t resulted in any loose threads or fading. Until Brooklinen’s, I found that many quilts felt either too heavy or too airy. For a quilt to be just right, it needs to strike a balance between the two, serving as a layer in the winter or primary covering in the summer. Thanks to its year-round utility, this quilt is definitely going to be making an appearance in my bedding rotation, and trust me, its sale price is too good to pass up.
