We Hacked the $35 RAST Dresser Two Ways: Happy Modern and Bone Inlay
The $35 unfinished pine dresser from IKEA is a blank slate for your creativity. To show how it can be customized to match any decor style—no matter if your signature look is understated or over-the-top—we hacked this dresser two ways. Today I’m excited to share Bobby, which I first saw at the New York Now show a few months ago.

The Cleaning Mistake I Didn’t Know I Was Making (But I’m Going to Keep Doing Anyway)
Back when I Kon-Mari-ed my cleaning supplies, I dutifully refilled my homemade baking soda dispensers (jars with holes hammered into the lids) and my re-purposed white vinegar squirters (empty dish soap bottles) so I’d have one of each in every bathroom. I use these ubiquitous homemade cleaners to scrub and disinfect all our sinks and toilets — or so I thought.

FINALLY Organize Your Spices & Make Your Own Magnetic Spice Rack
The paradox of learning how to cook is that the more competent you become, the less competent you feel, because you end up with a jumble of spices cluttering up your kitchen cabinets. Every new, exciting, unfamiliar spice you acquire — sumac, amchoor powder, fenugreek — translates into less space in your designated spice shelf, which then makes any given spice harder to find.

Try This Super-Simple DIY: Marbled and Ombre Concrete Planters
I’m a huge fan of the concrete and cement planter trend that’s been popping up on DIY blogs for a while now—but while painting the dull gray surface of standard concrete works, I knew there had to be a cooler way of coloring these little plant homes. After some research and hands-on testing, it turns out that the trick is starting with white concrete and stirring in powdered pigments. From there, the sky’s the limit. Marble them, create an ombre stack, go two-tone.

7 Super Common Dishwasher Mistakes You’ll Want to Stop Making, Right Now
I grew up without a dishwasher in the house, so nobody really ever taught me how the whole thing was supposed to work. But there are lots of finer points of machine-washing life that even experienced homekeepers might not know.
