When in search of home decor, chances are you gravitate toward your traditional home goods retailer. But have you ever given a classic home improvement store a try? Enter: Lowe’s!

Big-box home stores like Lowe’s are for more than just potting soil and plumbing equipment, yet many shoppers are still unaware that the term “home improvement” does indeed encompass decor as well. I’m talking throw pillows, decorative hooks, stunning light fixtures, furniture, cabinet pulls — you name it, Lowe’s has it.

I began to wonder: What would an interior designer think of Lowe’s home offerings? So I asked one! Armed with a budget of $100, I turned to Brittny Button, an interior designer and founder of Button Atelier, to find out how a seasoned pro might make the most of a trip to Lowe’s. (Spoiler alert: Her shopping list is absolutely genius!)

Check out her picks below for some under-the-radar gems to keep an eye out for on your next trip to the home superstore.

5 Designer-Approved Finds from Lowe’s

Hillman Brick Block Hanger
$5

Brick walls can feel prohibitive when it comes to decor. Button tossed one of these ingenious hooks, specifically designed for hanging decor on brick walls, into her cart. “Yes, something like this does exist!” she said. “Recently, I hung a wall fountain using one of these hooks near my front door. It has created a spa-like atmosphere when you approach the front door of my home!”

Style Selections Geometric Arches Privacy Decorative Window Film
$26

You don’t have to get new windows to make them feel more sophisticated; all you need is this decorative privacy film. “This is a versatile product and can be used for more than creating privacy in bath or kitchen windows,” Button explains. “I’ve used it to classically disguise the contents of glass kitchen cupboards and garage door windows.”

Nachtmann Clear Glass Modern Vase
$25

All you need to make your florals feel luxe is an elegant vase, like this one from Nachtman. “This is a stunning vase and looks like a designer piece,” Button says. “I’ve given it several times as a gift for the host of the dinner party we were attending. It makes a real statement when either florals or branches are added.”

allen + roth Oblong Indoor Decorative Pillow
$25

Throw pillows, like this adorable allen + roth piece, go a long way toward making a space feel cozy and comfy. “These have a great oblong shape to them, and the cream shade is chic,” Button says. “The texture gives off a modern organic feel as well.”

Origin 21 LED Touch Table Lamp
$21

No space is complete without thoughtful lighting. Button opted for this modern and minimalist LED lamp because it’s “supremely functional light, and it’s rechargeable, too.” As for how to style it, Button says it’s “easily placed in a foyer, desk area, or outdoor dining table,” and can be moved around in a snap since it’s cordless.

In the end, Button’s grand total was $100.50, and she was able to scoop up a handful of items that, when used together, could totally breathe new life into any space. It just goes to show that sometimes, the best decor pieces are hidden in the places you least expect them — and for delightfully low prices.
