Last year, my husband and I moved from a small apartment with a huge private rooftop to a larger place with a more compact balcony. This downsize has forced us to be more intentional when it comes to selecting the decor and storage items for our outdoor space as we wanted it to be both cute and functional.

When I was first buying new outdoor items, I was focused on the furniture and figured that a small indoor side table I used in my previous apartment would work on the balcony. Although it matched well, the wood top has begun to deteriorate. Not to mention, the couple of items I had on the bottom shelf were causing some visual clutter.

That’s why I decided to upgrade my side table to the IKEA OLIVBLAD Plant Stand, but I still needed a storage solution for my items. I knew I wanted a basket big enough to hide a speaker, coaster, and small watering can that would sit on the bottom shelf. Then I spotted the IKEA DJURTRÄNARE Basket, and now it’s my new favorite storage gem.

Why I Love Using the IKEA DJURTRÄNARE Basket in My Outdoor Space

This handwoven basket is ideal for storing outdoor items, such as gardening tools and outdoor dinnerware, but it can also be used indoors for keeping things like books and knitting supplies together. It comes in two colorways — blue and white or green and white — and measures 7 x 9 3/4 x 5 1/2 “. There’s also a slightly larger size available (9 3/4 x 13 3/4 x 7 1/2“).

The blue and white basket fit perfectly on the bottom shelf, keeping my three items stored away, while also adding a touch of bold blue to my balcony. I love how it stands out against the sleek black metal table, and that together, they create a neater overall look outside.

Whether your outdoor space has a pool and full outdoor kitchen, or it’s a compact and cozy balcony like mine, this colorful handwoven basket is the ultimate way to add necessary storage solutions while giving your patio some personality long after summer has ended.

An Alternative to Shop for on Amazon

If you can’t find this basket in your local IKEA or don’t happen to live near one, but still want to capture a similar aesthetic in your outdoor space, then you’re in luck. Amazon is selling these wicker storage baskets that are blue with a white liner so you can achieve that two-tone look anywhere.
