Chillier temps have more people adding extra coziness into all areas of their home — sometimes, that means busting out vintage looks (or at least, things that look like a blast from the past). IKEA understands this winter assignment and just released the STRÅLA LED table lamp, an antique-style light that’s actually powered by LEDs — but you wouldn’t guess from its unique finishes and Victorian-era look. You can have yourself a very merry holiday season of yore — but better!

What Is the IKEA STRÅLA Table Lamp?

The kerosene-style lamp from IKEA’s STRÅLA collection looks similar to gas lamps that were used in the mid and late 19th century. Kerosene became a popular fuel for gas lamps in the late 1840s, per Iowa State University, because it was an affordable by-product of the coal industry. Even after modern electricity began being installed in homes, many people still kept their kerosene lamps around for emergencies.

And this little LED lamp from IKEA looks so similar you wouldn’t be blamed for mistaking it for an antique. Luckily, you don’t need kerosene to burn it; it’s an LED bulb that runs on batteries and is dimmable, meaning you can set the mood with a simple twist of the knob. Right now, you can grab the lamp for just under $10.

What IKEA Shoppers Are Saying About the STRÅLA Table Lamp

Given that Victorian aesthetics are popular in home decor, it’s not surprising that reviewers had positive comments on IKEA’s website. “Nice, sturdy, metal and glass,” one IKEA shopper wrote about the STRÅLA lamp. “Gorgeous replica of a vintage oil lamp. I bought it for the vibe rather than utility, but it is bright enough.”

And someone else added, “I think it’s cute, and I love having battery-operated lamps for power outages.”

If your local IKEA is sold out or you can’t snag it online, you can find look-alikes elsewhere. Wayfair has a similar kerosene-style lamp that actually comes in a set of three. These lamps are styled with an antiqued finish on the metal base and come with battery-powered flameless tea light candles. They don’t emit a ton of light, but they’re great for using as centerpieces and displays at Christmastime.

Get an antique vibe without having to tinker with antique fixtures when you shop IKEA’s STRÅLA collection. This little vintage-style lamp will add a dash of nostalgia into any room with the touch of a button.
