Kate Hudson Just Made This 2000s Kitchen Trend Cool Again
Fans of Kate Hudson have long been enthralled with the 2026 Academy Award-nominated actress’s kitchen (especially her unique countertops), and it seems as though the room continues to give inspiration. The Hollywood film icon recently shared a carousel celebrating her Best Actress nomination, and in the background of one of the photos is a glorious throwback to ’90s-coded kitchens: a built-in computer desk.
“What a beautiful morning,” Hudson captioned her post, to which she received an overwhelming amount of comments congratulating her on her nomination for the upcoming 98th Academy Awards in March.
Kate Hudson’s Kitchen Computer Desk Is a Nostalgic Feature
Built-in desks, like the one in Hudson’s kitchen, were kind of the hub back in the day. It wasn’t just a spot that housed the desktop computer; it was a catchall place where mail was dropped, calendars were hung, and where one could typically find address books and landline phones. Because most of these things have now gone digital, these desks may be seen as outdated — but they can still be so useful!
It’s nice having a place (other than the kitchen island or dining room table) to check emails or look up recipes. They’re also a great space to work from home and store office supplies if you don’t have a dedicated room. Or you can completely transform them into a coffee bar or cocktail station, or treat them like a built-in Hoosier cabinet to keep all your baking supplies in one spot.
Kitchen desks aren’t the only nostalgic feature that’s popular among celebrity homes. Lisa Rinna, the reality television star who is currently starring in this season of Peacock’sThe Traitors, has a kitchen television on her countertop. It’s hard to ignore how it seems like some ’90s trends are making a comeback.
If you have a built-in desk in your kitchen, think twice before removing it if you plan a remodel in the future. It’s a nostalgic feature that can still be used despite us living in the digital age.
