This “Gorgeous” Collection Is Like a European Vacation for Your Tabletop
With Memorial Day, aka the unofficial start of the summer, right around the corner, al fresco entertaining season has arrived. I’m not one for fully revamping everything I have for the outdoors each season — especially the larger pieces. I’ve just inherited a patio umbrella that doesn’t quite go with my table or chairs, but I’m going to roll with it.
When it comes to smalls, though — you know, glasses, table linens, pillows, and planter pots? Well, I just can’t help myself there. Right now I’m eyeing the gorgeous new collaboration by LA-based designer Peter Dunham and Hudson Grace, which is maybe the chicest home entertaining concept store in the biz.
The first thing you’ll notice with these pieces is their Color with a capital C, because you won’t find tan, taupe, or gray in this vibrant mix. The vibes are right for summer, and there’s something for everyone in the four exuberant color stories that run across the entire collection: pink, green, blue, and red. Within these groups, you’ll find different size plates, cloth napkins, and tablecloths, all of which work well with Hudson Grace’s own summer linens and glassware as well as many of the brand’s core tabletop offerings.
Fans of Dunham will appreciate how well the collection (his first foray into tableware!) meshes with the patterns he’s known for — and the overall look and feel of his European-inspired interiors. Personally, I’m drawn to the green edit, especially Dunham’s iconic Fig Print, which pops up on cloth napkins, a tablecloth, and cocktail napkins. You’ll also see ikats, paisleys, and pretty floral designs. The starburst napkin (pictured top left, below) in the red and blue colorway would be perfect for setting a 4th of July table.
All of the items are meant to be layered within their color stories, but you could also mix and match across collections if that’s more your style. The pieces would all play well with white china, too. So although they’re an investment — and in the case of the beautiful plates, hand-painted in Italy by talented artisans — you know they’ll last you years (and just even a piece or two could perk up a tired table).
