Petlibro’s Smart Wet Food Feeder Gets a Stamp of Approval from My Picky Senior Cat
Like most pet owners, I’d do just about anything for my cat. Especially in the last two years or so, as my beloved calico Phoebe has entered into what the vet calls the “geriatric” stage. She’s still sassy as ever, but also 16 years old now, underweight, and VERY picky — so her appetite and nutrition is something I monitor closely. After lots of trial and error, we found that what works best for her is a diet that consists of about 80% wet food and 20% dry food and treats. But that’s not so easy to manage when I’m not at home and able to serve her up a fresh can of Fancy Feast on demand.
That’s where Petlibro comes in. The brand was already a favorite of mine; I’ve used their automatic dry food feeder to keep Phoebe’s kibble fresh while I’m away for longer periods. So I was very excited to learn of their latest launch, the Polar Smart Wet Food Feeder. I had the chance to try it out and, to my surprise and delight, it’s definitely Phoebe-approved.

Features That Stand Out
Petlibro’s Polar Smart Wet Food Feeder is one of the very first automatic wet food feeders on the market. Because wet food obviously has to be kept fresh (unlike kibble), the entire unit is refrigerated to keep your cat’s meals fresh for up to 72 hours. And for all that tech, the feeder is smaller than you’d think: just about 14” x 13” wide and 7.7” tall. I chose the sleek black color to help it blend in with the black tile floors in my kitchen, but it’s also available in white.
The feeder works by rotating a circular tray with three compartments in it for three different meals. When it’s time to eat, the tray rotates to compartment 1, 2, or 3, and the PawShield pet-safe opening slides back to reveal the food. You can set a recurring meal schedule in the app, and/or open it anytime by simply tapping “feed now.” It also plays a cute little noise when it opens, just to let kitty know it’s chow time.
The inner tray is removable for easy cleaning, and comes in either plastic or stainless steel — I have the plastic one, and it’s working great so far. I was worried the stainless steel might have gotten too cold, as my picky Phoebe (of course) does NOT enjoy a cold dinner. But Petlibro thought of everything; the Polar Wet Food Feeder uses a semiconductor cooling system to keep all three meals chilled, but just before serving the cooling is paused to bring your cat’s next portion up to room temperature.
How It Performed
As I’ve said several times, my Phoebe is … particular, with a capital P. She knows what she likes, and she’s not afraid to tell me. In fact, she’s so stubborn that if she doesn’t like what she’s served, she’ll sometimes walk away instead of eating. But any fears I had about the Polar Feeder were in vain; Phoebe warmed up (pun intended) to her new feeder right away. I even caught her first use on camera above; she walked right up to it and dove into a fresh serving of Fancy Feast while I watched from my desk in the office. I was so thrilled!
The ability to stagger different flavors for each serving was hugely helpful, too — Phoebe doesn’t like to have the same flavor of food for two meals in a row (I so wish I was kidding). While again, the device can technically keep three full meals fresh for up to 72 hours, I use it to dole out smaller portions throughout the day — usually when I’m in the office. Phoebe’s a grazer, meaning she eats small portions at a time, so this has been a total game changer.
I also love being able to see how many times she’s visited the feeder on the app, along with exactly how long she ate. The peace of mind that comes with knowing her appetite is regular is invaluable.
I also noticed a definite decline in pest activity since setting up my Polar Feeder. Unfortunately, the occasional bug is one of the pitfalls of pet ownership in New York; and leaving out large portions of unfinished stinky wet food for a full work day definitely wasn’t ideal. But the Polar Feeder doesn’t just keep freshness in — it also keeps those pesky bugs out.
What we love
- Cooling system brings each serving up to room temp before feeding time
- Easy to clean
- Meal schedule can be controlled from afar
- The app also reports how many times your cat has visited the feeder, and for how long
Good to know
- The machine can collect condensation below the serving tray, so just make sure you’re cleaning that out every so often
- Backup battery power can keep it running for 12 hours during an outage, but batteries are not included
Should YOU Buy the Petlibro Polar Smart Wet Food Feeder?
I’d recommend this feeder for any cat owner, truly — but especially for senior cats. One of the most common problems among senior cats is kidney disease, which can only really be prevented through adequate hydration. Lots of cats don’t love drinking water, though, so wet food is essential. The Petlibro Polar Smart Wet Food Feeder is exactly the solution I’d been hoping for for my sweet senior Phoebe.
I honestly can’t believe the Polar Feeder (and the app!) are under $200! Plus, you can use that exclusive code, APARTMENT15, to get 15% off your purchase of any Petlibro products on their site. And truly, the peace of mind this new feeder provides when it comes to my senior cat’s health is priceless.
