TikToker Samantha Braucht’s (@littlepommelane) New York apartment has several cool paint projects, like the faux-architectural trompe-l’oeil detail in the bathroom, the striped shelves in the bathroom, and the statement Art Deco waterfall dresser in the entryway.
Samantha found the latter on Facebook Marketplace for $50. “It was in horrible shape and falling apart,” Samantha writes on TikTok.

The DIYer primed the piece and painted stripes.

“Normally, I’d advise against painting on top of old pieces, but this one was in such bad shape there was no way to ‘restore it,’” Samantha says. “I … then painted it pink and burgundy, which was a bold choice, but I wanted the ‘pop’ against our sad white walls in the entry!”

Samantha sanded the piece on her roof, primed it, painted it pinkish brown using Benjamin Moore’s Tea Room, then taped it and added Benjamin Moore’s Cottage Red stripes.

The hardware is original to the piece.

Samantha restored the old dull hardware back to a shinier gold; she did run into a slight hiccup when she accidentally painted the doors closed and the tape “handles” she made weren’t strong enough to pull them open and ripped, but she eventually got them open and added her hardware.

She uses the armoire to store umbrellas, her daughter’s coats, and more. The wallpaper in the entryway was also a DIY project; it was an $8 roll of peel-and-stick from Amazon.

Samantha says on TikTok that in her dream world, she has a much bigger entryway, she wallpapers the walls head-to-toe, and she adds a new light fixture and molding. But for now, she has a charming stripe-on-stripe look that makes the perfect first impression in her Tribeca home.
