If you’re like me, your feet are always the coldest part of your body. Whether it’s due to frigid winter weather or an AC that’s been cranked up too high in the summer, keeping my lower extremities warm is a year-round task. While a great pair of fuzzy socks or the perfect slippers can do the trick (we’re particularly fond of these temperature-regulating slippers for year-round use), there are other ways outside of fashion to ensure your warmth — namely, with a soft, cozy area rug.

To keep your feet from going ice cold, I scoured the web for the softest area rugs from some of our favorite retailers. From shaggy faux fur styles to lush low-pile designs, these editor-approved rugs will warm up any spot in your home, and look stylish doing it.

Note: Prices listed are for size 5’ x 8′ or similar.

The Softest Area Rugs

Loloi x Rifle Paper Co. Eden Collection Mughal Area Rug, 5' x 7'-6"
$131

This Rifle Paper Co. design is just plain gorgeous — and according to AT’s Executive Editor, Terri Pous, it’s ultra-soft, too. “Immediately after unrolling the rug, my husband and I were dumbfounded by how soft it was,” she wrote in her review. “Like, yes, rugs are supposed to be comfy to walk on, but this one is another level.” It’s all thanks to Loloi’s signature CloudPile construction, a plush microfiber material that offers dreamy softness underfoot.

Cozy Plush Performance Shag Rug, 5' x 8'
$499

Editors said this shag rug is the coziest one they tested at West Elm. “If you want something inviting enough to curl up on, look no further,” AT’s former Shopping Writer Nikol wrote. It all comes down to the thick polyester yarns that give the rug its plush and pillowy high pile. The lush texture and cloud-white color makes it a great pick for bedrooms. Who wouldn’t want to sink their feet into its high pile first thing in the morning?

Releany Medallion Washable Rug, 5’x7’
$40

The only thing I love more than a soft rug is a low-maintenance rug, like this one from Amazon. The price is unbeatable at under $40 for a 5’x7’ size, and the low pile feels shockingly comfy underfoot, according to one AT editor: “This is quite literally one of the softest rugs I have ever stepped foot on. In fact, I’d compare it to walking on a velvet cloud; it’s an absolute dream.” The best part, though, is that you can toss it in the wash for easy upkeep!

Noahas White Faux Fur Rug, 4' x 6'
$55

This shaggy faux fur rug looks surprisingly luxe, given its under-$50 price tag (for a 3’x5’ size). Its fluffy, high pile looks cushy and inviting — and according to AT Contributor Shelby Deering, it feels incredibly cozy. She actually styled it in her bathroom, of all places, and swears it made the space feel infinitely more luxe. And if a white shag rug in the bathroom feels sketchy to you, this one’s machine-washable so it’ll stay pristine.

Safavieh Berber Shag Rug, 5'1" x 7'6"
$132

Looking for high pile? This shag rug is sure to satisfy. It’s got a pile height of 1.2 inches, which gives your feet all the warmth and comfort — seriously, you won't want to walk on anything else. Even better is the neutral yet artistic design that lends just enough interest without drawing all the attention.
