Michelle’s Grown-Up Look
Name: Michelle Location: Los Angeles, CA I’ve lived in my rental apartment for almost 5 years (I’m the building manager) and hadn’t changed much of the hand-me-down furniture that i scrapped together when i moved in. I recently turned 30 and took a look around and realized the place didn’t fit me anymore- I had grown out of the look and style of the entire place. I then started on a mission to re-design the entire place!

Before & After: A Broken Heart Gets Mended
After hauling this unusual but beat-up chair frame around for 15 years, Tami finally found the inspiration to fix up this old broken heart (-shaped chair!). From Tami: Many years ago (15 to be exact) I was driving my son to school, after dropping him off and looping the block I saw this skeleton of a chair next to the trash. I stopped to pick it up, thinking I would take it on as a project. Well after lugging it around for many moves, neither my skills or budget matched up.

Jack’s Small Stylish Space in Chicago
Name: Jack Location: Chicago, IL My apartment is in an amazing vintage building in Lakeview that used to be owned by the Roosevelt family. There is no lack of character, which is one of the best parts aside from great lakeside location. Although it’s a smaller unit (roughly 450 sf) as a result of the chopped up floor plans when it was converted to a rental building, it’s very efficient.

See what they did with a trip to IKEA: From Ewa: My husband and I moved into this VA townhouse late summer. We knew we would be removing wall to wall carpeting before our furniture was to arrive in only 4 weeks. We had little time and not a huge budget. We decided to DIY the floors.

Celine from Aquahaus participated in this past One Room Challenge, and tackled two outdoor outdoor decks on the roof of her Austin home. Here is one of the two, which she calls “Deck A.” As you can see, the original space is reminiscent of an army bunker with tons of grey concrete (and even an American flag).
