If you’re anything like me, however, a trip to The Home Depot can be a bit overwhelming (for both myself and for my wallet!). I can easily wind up in the lumber department or the tile aisle, and find myself dreaming up my next project before the first one has even begun. So when you’re on a mission — whether browsing in-store or online — it helps to come prepared with a list.

The first step to making any outdoor space feel finished? Lighting! And no, you don’t need to call your electrician. Battery or solar-powered lights are great options if you don’t have an outlet.

“To add a little interest to our patio this summer, we outfitted our pergola with some simple string lights,” Gage says. “It’s a great, affordable way to make your outdoor space feel more special and adds a little twinkle [to] warm summer nights.” This delicate-looking set is 32 feet long, and at just under $15, you really can’t go wrong!
