Recently I visited the H&M in Midtown Manhattan, which has an entire floor dedicated to home products. I was pleasantly surprised not only by just how many cute and trendy items I saw, but also by the fact that many of them felt durable and long-lasting. That included the brand’s dishware. There were plenty of pieces I’d be excited to display when hosting, but one particular collection stayed in my mind longer than any other.

Tucked away on one of the back shelves was a set of petal-shaped cups and dishes. Although they look very current and are perfect for spring, if you’re into a floral aesthetic you’ll want to use them every day and keep them forever, regardless of the season. The best part is how affordable the pieces are, so I’d definitely stock up while they’re still available.

What Is the Petal Stoneware?

These dishes are 100% ceramic stoneware. They come in a few different shapes and sizes, and some of them are available in white in addition to the light pink color. Each piece has a glazed finish and textured feel, which makes sense considering it’s designed to mimic the look of flower petals.

I first saw the petal mugs, which fit comfortably in the palm of my hand. They’re a good size for tea (they gave me major tea party vibes!) or a small shot of espresso, and they pair with matching saucers that you can also use to serve nuts, desserts, and other small bites. If you wanted, you could pick up a full petal dining collection, as there are also small and large serving plates and these cute little bowls that would be nice for ice cream.

Why I Love the Petal Stoneware

If the design of these plates looks familiar to you, it might be because they remind you of cabbageware, a style of ceramic dishware produced by Bordallo Pinheiro, a Portuguese company founded in the late 1800s. Whereas an original cabbageware plate can cost roughly $40, these H&M gems range from $10 to $30 each.

When I held the petal dishware in the store, I found it to feel thin but durable. You’ll probably want to hand-wash the pieces to avoid chipping, but with proper care I could see them lasting a long time.

There’s no telling how much longer these spring pieces will stay in stock, so if you like them as much as I do I recommend grabbing a set ASAP. They’re a great value, and they’re bound to draw compliments anytime guests come over and use them.
