Name: Féline & Ryan Location: Upper East Side, New York As soon as we decided to move in together we had a very clear vision of what we wanted our home to look like. We are both insanely crazy about that big vast space which we call the Ocean, everything about it… the salty smell of the wind, the turquoise water, the seashells, the sand, the sound of the surf…It’s one of the very first thing that we bonded over (the second is whiskey).

Name: Gregory Keith Metcalf Location: Downtown Arts District; Los Angeles, CA Size: 1,500 square feet Years lived in: Less than a year; Rented Fellow photographer Greg Metcalf and I have been friends for years. A move from the suburbs of Silver Lake to the Arts District of Downtown LA has offered Greg quite a contrast in architecture, neighborhood, and lifestyle. I jumped at the chance to shoot his new place; I love a good loft and this home exemplifies the true meaning of live/work space.

Name: James and Shanna Location: Durham, NC Size: 1,100 square feet Years lived in: Renting less than one year James is a production manager for Merge Records (you may know some of their artists – She & Him, Arcade Fire and Caribou, to name a few) and Cleveland Browns enthusiast. Shanna is the Director of Marketing for InMotionNow, a work management solutions company for creatives.

Name: Laura Location: London, Ontario – Canada Our apartment is in an old bankers mansion that was built in the late 1800’s. The house is split into 7 units. The main living space of our unit used to be the formal dining room of the home and has very unique and beautiful hardwood floors that were installed at the beginning of the twentieth century (which are still in amazing shape for their age).

Name: Tiffany Napper Location: Uptown; New Orleans, Louisiana Size: 1,400 square feet Years lived in: 5 years; Owned When Tiffany Napper was house hunting in New Orleans five years ago, she couldn’t get her mind off the first place she saw. The little white shotgun, located near the Mississippi River, was previously owned by a 93-year-old woman who had been born in the house and lived there until she died. It had drop ceilings, faux wood paneling, and dirty wall-to-wall carpeting.

Name: Jennifer and Hans Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands My boyfriend, Hans and I, Jennifer have been living in this apartment together for two years now. After studying Fashion Design at ArtEZ in Arnhem and traveling through South America, I moved to Amsterdam in 2011. Here I founded Studio J|A|A|F, a design label that focuses on material and color combinations. Besides the design label, I am also an interior stylist. Hans has almost finished his PhD in chemistry.

Name: Cat Location: London, UK My name is Cat and I live in London with my Texan partner, Matt, and our scrappy ginger kitten, Chutney. We are both terribly boring lawyers in our day jobs, but we are also the couple behind Take Courage Blog, a London-based lifestyle blog which we’ve been running for four years. Living in London isn’t cheap, and we have lived in some horrendous, tiny rentals over the years.

Name: Rachel Lee Location: East Hills; Grand Rapids, MI Size: 1,560 square feet Years lived in: 9 months; Owned When I told a mutual friend that I was photographing Rachel Lee’s house for Apartment Therapy, that friend said, “Her house is cool as hell.” Upon entering Rachel’s house for the first time, I immediately agreed. The wall colors, the white outlines, the arched doors, the collection of globes: I had found my new favorite house.

Name: Kirsten Thoft and Ted Nadeau Location: Princeton, NJ Size: 3200 square feet (including lower level apartment / family room) Years lived in: 2 years; owned So many words are needed to describe Kirsten and Ted’s multi-faceted home: beautiful, sustainable, functional, light, airy, warm, homey, and even industrial! Kirsten, an architect, purchased the site and originally planned to build a spec home.

Two sisters, native New Yorkers and close in age, share this apartment.

Name: Brigette Location: Bellevue, Nebraska Built in 1941, our home is full of quirky charm! The unique floor plan lends itself to several nooks which have been really inspiring to decorate around. We’ve taken to curating little vignettes around our home, each corner telling a story about us and our past. Having lived in Hawaii and Germany prior to moving to Nebraska, much of our decor is eclectic.

Name: Avery and Ryan Location: Bouldin Creek neighborhood, Austin, Texas We moved into our 2,200 square foot house in central Austin from a one-roomed, open floor plan condo with a three-week-old baby and fairly little furniture. With a newborn, we were just happy to have doors and didn’t really care that we couldn’t afford to completely furnish our space right away. We bought a nice couch and a new bed and added a few cheap pieces to fill out the space as best we could.

Name: Melissa and Kevin; children Elle, Harper and Beckham; and Ally the cat Location: Old Rosedale Gardens; Livonia, Michigan Size: 2,000 square feet Years lived in: 3 years; Owned Melissa and Kevin are raising their family in the Detroit suburb of Livonia. They live in the historic Old Rosedale Gardens neighborhood, which was modeled after Detroit’s Rosedale Park. Most homes in the neighborhood were built in the 1920s and 30s and each house looks different.
